I was one of those weird kids who usually enjoyed the assigned reading in English class. In ninth grade we were assigned this book and I was one of the very few who loved it. I took it home and read it in one evening and immediately fell in love.
I wish I had a father like Atticus.
This book is so fascinating and has so many diverse characters and covers many important themes. My father is a little racist and very judgmental, although he doesn't think so. I think this book contributed a lot in my moral development and I'm glad I lean more towards Atticus' school of thought than I do towards my Dad's.
If you have somehow made it through life without reading this book, I urge you to pick up a copy.
