The apple falls not too far from the tree

Mommy's been waiting impatiently for her DVD of Serenity which she ordered from deepdiscoundvd. They're weird in their shipping: I got my box set of Neon Genesis Evangelion pretty quick but it took weeks for me to receive The Slipper and the Rose when I got it for Susanna as a Christmas present. While everyone else has been greedily lapping up viewing after viewing of Serenity, my mom's been without. She already knows what happens since I called her right after I saw it and told her all about the deaths and the Reavers, but she's still been itching to see it.

So she called me just after noon to tell me her horoscope of the day:"Serenity" is a concept you've heard others talk about needing, but you're not convinced it's for you. You could be right. Something about the chaos feeds your soul today.
Never mind the meaning, she said as soon as she read it she knew it was going to arrive today-and it did. I guess she's been puttering around ever since and finally sat down to watch it.

Just got off the phone with her, and she said the first 5 minutes had the hair on the back of her neck standing up. andamaroo and I have discussed this muchly, and we both agree (believe it or not) that the first 15 minutes or so were weak in comparison to the rest of the movie. She must've seen more than 5 minutes because she saw the Operative kill the doctor but, like me, she'll exaggerate or underwhelm to prove her point. I told her to just chill and watch, because I thought the opening wasn't that great. She hurried to get off the phone so she could continue to watch.

Then she said that Joss Whedon is just awesome, and Whedon and Quentin Tarantino are her favorite directors/writers. She did, after all, call me at work-where she almost never calls-immediately after seeing Kill Bill, Vol. 1 merely to aver that it was the most awesome movie ever. Really.

Now, maybe you see where I get it from.

serenity, joss whedon
