Book Review - Inkheart by Cornelia Funke

I should so have loved this book, because I adored the film, and it's a book about books, and reading and it should be just so wonderfully ace. And it is, for a little bit anyway...

...but then it should really have ended and it didn't, it kept going on and on and on until you wanted to scream at the whole lot of them, and especially at the author for belabouring something that really didn't need to be belaboured. Which was the entire story!

I'm not sure that I've ever before thought that the movie was better than the book, but in this case... it really is. It's tighter, and the characters are given an extra bit of oomph by the actors - especially Dustfinger, who I liked alot, and almost wanted to write fic for at the end. The film is the edit that should have been done on the book, somehow.

Inkheart is actually the first of a trilogy, and while I really want to know what happened to Dustfinger, I'm not sure I'm up to actually reading the next stories to find out. It's odd, I can't quite put my finger on what's wrong - Inkheart doesn't seem too word-y, it don't seem to contain much more than the actual film action-wise, or description-wise, or anything else-wise, it's just... interminable.

The dvd is out on 13th of April though. Now that I'll watch again... *g* Plus on the bright side, I get to read another book now, because I've finally finished this one!
