It's the alternator

Well I walked down to Kroger. (Man that hill on the corner is a doozy!)
Anyway- I made sure the car was still there and then I went into Kroger. I was just about out of minutes on my cell phone so- I bought a $10 card and refilled it. Then I went to the car and tried to start it. It wouldn't start. Then I called Triple A (which I should have done yesterday) but anyway... as I was saying. I called Triple A and someone came out. Very nice man (I should have got his name). He jumped it and tested the battery and said the battery is "marginal" but then he checked the alternator and said it needs to be replaced. Bummer! I was hoping that wasn't the case but thought it might be. He says the battery should last at least until winter if I have the alternator replaced. Basically- I really should get a new battery too but mostly I need a new alternator. I asked how much that would cost and he said "off-hand" around $200 and I forget whether he said including or excluding the cost of labor.
I just don't have it right now. Like I said- I don't even know where the rent is going to come from.
Oh- I forgot to mention- he offered to have it towed somewhere but I said I just wanted to get it home. So he left the think he used to jump it with (some kind of device that gives power) and used a short bungee cord or whatever to hold my hood down. And then I drove very slowly home and he followed me and then removed the device. So now the car is sitting in front of the house.
