City Permit, Change Order For Driveway--4-day weekend at home

Feb 15, 2018 19:52

A lot of good news at home:
* The contractor for our potential driveway did measurements and created a site plan this week for the city permit process. The cost of the project may go up probably another $1000 because of the additional concrete. It would be really nice if the company wouldn't add that in, considering how long I had to wait for this. If they don't give me a financial break I will certainly review the company appropriately. However, so glad we are finally moving ahead. The rep says that, based on discussions with the city about the code, that there shouldn't be any deal-breakers there.
* We are just breaking-even after all the company bonuses, but any additional financial pressures and we will be dog paddling again and I will be scaling back activities. With the cost overrun on the driveway and some additional requests I have heard about, I don't expect things to remain rosy.
* However, for now will take the roses where I can find them. I set up a bunch of events for Marisa and I to enjoy this 4-day holiday:
- Saturday afternoon: Buster Keaton's Seven Chances with Dean Lemire playing the organ at the Hollywood.
- Sunday night: Karla Bonoff at the Alberta Rose Theater
* Yes, I am taking off Friday as a vacation day I didn't spend in 2017. One more of those...then I can start spending this year's allocation.
* Friday: Showers predicted. That means misty rain...25% precipitation. It may be good enough for me to move a little dirt. I want to also remove old dead plants, remove weeds, rake the park strip, sweep.
* Monday: Dry day. Mow lawns, make wood chips. Plan to also bury the northwest drain and move the french drain away from where the drive way will go (wood to hold back rocks, remove rocks, cap drain, push in soil, add landscape fabric, remove wood, finish drain rocks throughout). Also fill in the prospective post holes and dig new ones.
* Kitchen. I cleaned all the dishes last weekend with a few exceptions. I have been able to maintain this and will continue that through this weekend. After that, who knows. However, I feel much better in a cleaner environment.
* Next:
- vacuum the dining room carpet
- dump newspapers from living room
- finish stowing glass negatives
- stow all silent movie slides

Then...
- Feb. 23, Friday, a burlesque show
- Feb. 24, Saturday night: The Mads at the Alberta Rose Theater

kitchen, movie theaters, vacuum, carpet, film, movie, music, lawns, glass slides, budget, lemire, mst3k, sideyard, driveway, hollywood, glass negatives
