Dry fur!

Most of you have noticed it's a rather rainy time.  Having dry fur is nearly impossible.  If you wash your fur it seems to stay wet for days with all the humidity and frequent rains.  I noticed also that, when I went to eat berries out in the woods, most of them are hiding benieth the leaves and those which are showing are still red, the ripe ones try to stay out of the rain, sensible plants.

A bear needs a nice sunny day to peruse berries.  This spring they were real busy letting me know where they intended to grow with their nice white flowers poking out in the underbrush.  I've eaten a bunch of them so far but when it gets cloudy they hide those berries that might fall off, so you have to look harder, they'd rather be eaten than knocked down by big rain drops, as they ripen.

A nice sunny day and they pop out at you, shiny and appealing.   The sweetest berries are those which give that eye bright wink at you in the sunlight as you forage about.  If they are dull of luster, leave em be, they won't really be sweet enough and are just too ripe, it's those shiners that ya wanna go after, Yum with a double yummy!

I wonder how the berries are doing in Missouri?  I'm going there this weekend and I'm gonna check them out to see.  I'm wanting a nice sunny day and I think I'll get it too, will be a bit humid but that's not a problem.  In July I'm going to move further up north and I'll still get to eat berries, they start climbing the hills and into the mountains by the time the ones in the lower hills and valleys are finishing up.  Hmm, Colorado, Red Sleeves, yep, that's gonna be prime berry eating come July and I'm just not ready to give up eating them yet.  I'll come down country once fruit starts to ripen and maybe go south a bit where they ripen early.  Johnathan Apples are my favorite but I love any fruit I can get hold of.

Better start packing for Missouri, no sense in getting the fire-breathing mechanical roaring sheep out there today, way too wet, I'll just play with the trees a bit and work some more on those trees that lost limbs in the storms here the last couple weeks.  It's a good time of year for bears.
