Browsing through the Lithuanian wikipedia, I stumbled upon an article on Belarus.

So, in Lithuanian its name is Baltarusija. Which, I guess, has more to deal with Baltics than with 'white'. But the country is landlocked. And balta means breach in Latvian (and I guess, it would mean pretty much the same in LT).
