On Football (inevitably), Coffee Mugs, and Publishing

I do feel completed to admit that I'm an almost convert after yesternight's stunning display by Germany. I belonged to the 'ye of little faith' group of fans who secretly wanted to see Portugal progress simply because they seemed capable of playing a better and superior type of footie.

Well, turns out, they are merely capable but not under pressure. It hardly ever felt so good to witness Germany go through against a nominally better oponent. Especially given Ronaldo's antics and play-acting. Why is it that ever since Maradonna's Hand of God it seems to be acceptable for ingenious players to also be outrageous cheaters and be applauded for it?

The best comment I read:'The mannschaft proved yet again that group stages is for sissies, its the knockout that matters.'

I stumbled across a totally unrelated find today. I was looking for a tutorial on the computing monster that is the Legacy System Migration Workbench in SAP. I found what I wanted on LULU, the site where about anybody can publish a book.

That in many respects sounds more awful than meets the ear. A sneak preview of the tutorial looked promising, judgement pending. The reason why I mention LULU is that I then went on to look for more SAP related articles and found a novel whose description was as intruiging as it was appalling. Comic gem or just good enough to light a fire? Be your own judge:

Flugelheim's Flight, or, Kidnapped by Babes from Outer Space

(Hint: Click image to visit LULU website)
Flugalheim, a neurotic Earthling, is kidnapped one afternoon by a group of strange, naked girls. They take him to their space ship, tie him down, and take a sperm sample, before transporting him to their planet. Once there he is compelled to go through an "Emotional Purification Process" before he is allowed to freely roam the planet. All the males on the planet have died off due to Homopox. His job is to repopulate the planet. It's a hard job but somebody has to do it. He spends several blissful days sowing his oats, only to discover that he himself has contracted the deadly Homopox. Snerdglupp (with whom he falls in love), helps him escapes the planet and fly back to Earth, where he introduces his interstellar girlfriend to his psychotherapist. The therapist at first thinks this is another of Flugalheim's "flights of fantasy," but becomes convinced when Snerdglupp sits on his lap and he tastes her sweet sap. This is an erotic Science Fiction satire similar to "Gulliver's Travels."
