Boxing Day and more baking

I tried to bake my sister's favourite cookie today, "Drömmar" or Dreams in English, but of course they didn't turn out like they should. They are supposed to be very light and crumbly, and call for the use of hartshorn salt as a leavening agent, which is very popular in Swedish Christmas baking.

Family lore tells that when my sister was a small child, our grandmother took her to an old traditional coffee house and told her to order what ever kind of cake she wanted, expecting her to choose a big cake or perhaps a Princess Cake. But my sister wanted a "Dröm", and when granny asked if that really was all she wanted, and that she should choose something more, my sister said TWO dreams. This has been held out as an example of temperance and modesty  for us siblings ever since, and we've never been able to live up to her ideal.

The cakes are supposed to look like this

Mine turned out like this:

I also managed to burn the knäck tonight, since my dear sister took it of the stove before it was done, and I didn't know how much longer I had to boil it. Oh well. Not a day for baking, that's for sure.
