Your new document arrives by mail in approximately two weeks.

We went to the DMV first and then the SSA Office. We had no problems doing it that way.
I didn't make an appointment at the SSA Office- we waited about 15min. You don't get a new card that day- they'll mail it to you. You will get a letter stating that you you've changed your name though.

Also, YES, make an appt. at the SS office. It'll save you alot of time! And be prepared or you'll have to wait again.
