My parents went to extremes to keep us believing. When I was nine or ten, they had someone stomp on the room and jingle bells. When we ran back to our rooms, they had someone who was hiding inside and was DRESSED AS SANTA in case we peeked, drag out a bag of presents. And peek we did! My parents were in their room waiting, and spied on us. They went out and so quietly got us into their room for a few minutes. We waited until we heard footsteps on the roof again, and ran out to a roaring fire and presents.
It's hard not to believe in Santa a little longer than usual when this happens.

I don't really ever remember having an epiphany about the whole Santa thing, and I don't even really remember how old I was. I just remember one year being all excited because Santa, reindeer, presents, magical stuff, etc, and the next year thinking "the dude has flying reindeer and makes all his presents himself and delivers them to every single house in one night?" and kind of felt that fizzle that hits you when you realize maybe things aren't what they seem.

That's another thing I forgot! I recognized my parents handwriting when it said 'from Santa'. A few years later, my neighbor had some kids who were younger than me and they were still keeping it all alive; I was the one to do the "to" and "from" writing because they didn't know my handwriting! :D
I had a friend a few years back to the to and from for my kid...she's an older lady and has truly the most beautiful penmanship on the planet. Very fancy and neat; it looked so legit I was tempted to believe it myself :P
