Ducks Win!

Last night at the Arrowhead Pond/Honda Center, the Anaheim Mighty Ducks (yes, I am aware that is not their current name, but it is the name I will use) , after 14 years in the NHL and 3 amazing movies have beaten the Ottawa Senators to win the Stanley Cup.  I, of course, am ecstatic, having been a Mighty Ducks fan from the beginning.  Teemu Selanne, a legend/one of my favorite players ever, won his first cup and was bawling his eyes out.  The Niedermayer brothers got to share this victory with one another, first brothers to do so since 1983.  Chris Pronger, for all the controversy he has stirred up with leaving Edmonton at the end of last season to come to Anaheim, made up for it (maybe not for the Oilers) by being a huge factor in the series.  This is why I love hockey, it's such a fierce sport played with so much passion and so much heart.  And it's not easy to win; many players go their whole lifetime without winning Lord Stanley's Cup.  Somehow, I just feel like it means more to professional hockey players to win this prize, than it would for Tim Duncan to win another Larry O'Brien Trophy.  Lifting the cup and skating is one of sport's most  recognizable moments, and I'm very happy that Anaheim can say we are Champions in yet another sport (now we need a football team).
