Chapter 719 in "Brynn Fangirls Jeffrey Foucault, and So Should You."

Jan 19, 2006 09:15

So. I was listening to Jeffrey Foucault's "Stripping Cane" last night in the car, as I do, and it occurred to me that the song I'm currently obsessed with, "Northbound 35," absolutely MUST be made into a vid. At first I was thinking of it for Veronica Mars, and then I realized that it's utterly perfect for Brokeback Mountain, and then I realized that maybe it's too perfect for Brokeback, that it pretty much tells the same story as the movie, so there wouldn't be much new there. So I'm back to Veronica Mars. And back to wondering why I haven't even attempted to learn to vid (aside from my lack of spare time and total lack of skill with visual art). Help me, dualbunny, you're my only hope! ;D

In any case, I was hoping this mp3 could be one of the ones Jeff has available for download on his site, but sadly, no. Maybe if I'm feeling ambitious later I'll upload it to my site so you can have a listen, on the condition that you BUY HIS ALBUMS BECAUSE THEY ARE AWESOME. Here are the lyrics, though:

Northbound 35

Northbound 35
Through the iron hills
Under infidel skies
It's two hundred miles to drive
You won't be home

I saw an elsebound train
On the overpass
In the driving rain
Every ticket costs the same
For where you can't go

Chorus:
Mustang horses, champagne glasses
Anything frail anything wild
It’s the price of living motion
What's beautiful is broken
And grace is just the measure of a fall

So I rolled into your town
I passed the smokestacks
And the ore docks down off of Main
And the sky spun around
With her diamonds on fire

We fought all night and then we danced
In your kitchen
You were as much in my hands
As water or darkness or nothing
Can ever be held

Chorus

It's just flashes that we own
Little snapshots
Made from breath and from bone
And out on the darkling plain alone
They light up the sky

It's 51 and driving south
Ain't it funny
How things'll turn out
I never even kissed you on the mouth
When we said good-bye

Chorus

I can't even tell you how many lines in there just slay me. And yeah, that's FUCKING BYRON he's quoting. Except I'm sure he's much, you know, saner than Byron. But still. *swoooon* I will not rest until I've told everyone I know about this man. Probably a squillion times. But really, he's that good.

On a completely different topic, raffaella! I got your package! Sort of! What I really got was a notification to pick up the package at the post office tonight, which I will hopefully be able to do! But I'm very excited! Hence the exclamation points! And well-timed, because your fic is very nearly finished (save for HTML coding), so at least I will have something to offer in return. :) Anyway, thank you in advance!!!

appreciation, jeffrey foucault, music
