The Friday Five

Aug 27, 2021 20:37

Hello everyone. It has been a week. I've had today off and apart from doing some marking and the supermarket I've done very little at all. Indeed, I stayed up late last night watching a bit of live Paralympics after going to the theatre, partly with the intention of turning today into something that actually felt like a day off. I feel like I did achieve that at least.

Theatre was great - Constellations, with what should have been Anna Maxwell Martin and Chris O'Dowd, but unfortunately she was ill. The understudy was great, though. I'm still a bit surprised I'm okay going to the theatre, given how cautious I've been about stuff generally. And it's not like numbers are good for covid UK. But I seem to have decided I'm okay with it for now at least. Anyway. Done now. Hopefully I won't be the third member of my work dept to get covid in a week (the others haven't been in the office, ironically).

And the Friday Five is about wishes, basically
If you could design your life exactly how you'd like, how famous would you be?
Not very. But I'd quite like a level of being known for being a good thing, in a specialist circle. I think I've said before there's a woman in the Shedunnit book club who is a podcaster whose work I enjoy. I'm glad she's in the club and as nice a person as she seems on her podcast. But that's about the limit of fame.

How often would you travel?
Probably not more often than I did pre-covid, 3 or 4 times a year, but I'd stay longer. I'd love to have 2-4 weeks each time to get to know somewhere, instead of dotting in and out in 5-10 days.

How many people would live with you?
In my actual house, half a person as now. We've not-lived-together too long to be entirely together. But what I'd actually like is to own some fabulous compound or village or something, so that I can be close to several people I know, and easily get together some evenings, without actually sharing a kitchen or bathroom and having plenty of space. What? This is wish fulfilment.

How often would you eat out at restaurants?
Surprisingly not too often I think. Once a week for sure, but I like to cook and I don't get on with endless massive meals. Maybe once a week and the odd brunch. But that would partly be because I'd like to levitate home after lots of cultural stuff so I don't have to eat out in boring places just because I can't be at home.

What new hobby would you get into?
I quite fancy pottery, but there's no real reason I can't do that now, other than time and laziness. I would *definitely* get a lot of head massages though. They are hard to fit into a sensible life, but ideally I'd have some.
