I just got the most interesting message sent to me through MySpace. It was from
A & R Management, the talent agency behind Amber Ojeda, who I wrote about in
a post on Radio KRUD. Read the post before reading the message below:
Dave,
I was reading your comments about Amber Ojeda and I must tell you I feel you did her a terrible injustice I think you should take another look. Amber has an incredible Jazz backgroud studied and plays with amazing Jazz musicians.
It is very disheartning to read your words. I am not sure of your background but I know Amber's before you slaughter someones work you should really listen to the music.

Did I slaughter her work? I don't think I did. I did have a couple of negative criticisms. I think this Holleran lady is just pissed off because I made fun of the promo material, which she probably typed up herself. But despite my lack of technical training, I stand by my familiarity with music in general. I also stand by my statement that this is good music, just not spectacular or even entirely unique. And I don't believe I ever said that she wasn't talented. I did say that the jazziness that was said to have a strong prevalence in her music doesn't really stand out except in her vocal stylings and in the arrangement of "Love from the Band," but kind of sound is very common in modern R&B. I am tempted to revise my statements in a future post, affirming my stance, but stating it more clearly.
But really, I just think this lady is one of those annoying publicist types who whine and complain about even the slightest perceived mistreatment of their clients. Hell, Radio KRUD isn't even that popular in the grand scheme of things. I doubt that we would have that big of an effect on Amber Ojeda's fame.
Just to be clear, I have no real beef with Ojeda or her music. In fact, I tend to hold musicians in higher regard than I probably should and I hope that anything I said in my post did not make her feel bad. I bet she doesn't even know of its existence. She's probably too busy with her career to bother with some petty little blog's comments about her music.
