[PUBLIC] Gaming Weekend D10!
This Gaming Weekend (named after my favorite of all the polyhedrons) was fantastic. This is one of the few events every year in which I actually have a great time from beginning to end, no matter what else is happening.
This weekend zrealm took over as the official vendor, which I heartily approve of on several levels. His operational knowledge of his product line was excellent, and he actively participated in the event; an underestimated requirement of building relationships with your customers. He also sold me copies of Formula D (the new printing of Formula De), and Space Alert, expanding my tiny empire still further.
Speaking of games, I had quite a few this year. I kicked off with Empire Builder, because I haven't played Crayon Rails in a long, long time. That was great, as was the follow-up game of Betrayal at the House on the Hill, in which I got to roleplay Ox Bellows to hilarious effect. OX SMASH!
Saturday was Formula D street racing, an interesting and silly spin on the classic gameplay of Formula De (Formula D also has the base rules, but we wanted to try the new content.) There was also Bang, and Andrew Wells' Paranoia run. In the afternoon, we play-tested a new boardgame written by myself and jalathewingedone's husband, which ran long but was fun. It will be enhanced. After that there was poker, and then Space Alert, which is a remarkable game I recommend everybody try at some point.
Sunday, as always, was more subdued, but still there was more Formula D, and Charlie Company in the afternoon, in which GM invader_haywire was only a second- or third-order term in the actual casualties inflicted on our poor imaginary squads of men. It also provided me with the opportunity to hang up on a friend with the words "Gotta go, some Viet Cong just jumped out from behind a tree."
Finally, we broke down and ate. Logistics were massively complicated by the Campus Center's battery-eating qualities, but we muddled through. Also, Vinny T's gave us a pitcher of Shirley Temple. That was truly remarkable.
Overall, double-plus good. Now, Forward Unto Dawn.
