First two assessments; first two mocks

We received results today from our Conference and Legal Research assessments and from our Criminal Procedure and Evidence and Civil Procedure multiple-choice test mocks.

Where 50% is a Competent (pass), 70% Very Competent and 85% Outstanding:

Legal research, which I worked my heart out on: 79%
Conference, which I knew I'd made a few errors on, but thought I'd done really well on overall: 75%

Not good enough, in other words. Somehow I'll have to pull up from that. I need an Outstanding on six exams in order to get an Outstanding overall. (I can't be absolutely certain how many we have left without checking, but off the top of my head: Drafting, Opinion Writing, Negotiation, three Advocacy assessments, and four multiple-choice tests, two in Criminal Procedure and Evidence, two in Civil Procedure, then an exam in each of our optional sessions -- mine being Immigration and Family, natch.)

For the mocks, where 60% is a pass:

Criminal Procedure and Evidence (the one I managed to half-study half of the material for): 52.5%
Civil Procedure (the one I didn't so much as open a book for): 60%

I knew I was right to think the Criminal Procedure exam was harder!

I haven't received such low grades in... I don't remember. High school. I never failed anything in uni, but I failed some math tests when I went through my "I hate math and can't be bothered with it" phase. Yuck. Lucky the mocks don't count for anything.

We get the results from our drafting and opinion writing mocks back next week, although our tutor Gerald, an older gentleman who took a shine to me on my very first class with him, has already informed me that mine was the only Very Competent out of the opinion writing ones, and "not by much." Given that I left my research for it at home on the morning (it was an open book exam), didn't bring in my White Book on civil procedure so was completely at sea on that bit, and spent an hour out of the exam room re-printing all the material I'd researched the previous day... I'd say a scraped VC is encouraging.

But overall, I am not happy. At all.

exams, aggro
