Keeping Warm

Oct 23, 2013 12:20

H got a letter today, from our gas supplier.  "You won't want to hear this," it warbles, "but we are putting your bill up."  Fortunately it's only by 8.something %.  Other power suppliers have been increasing their prices by 9.something%.  And all with a rate of inflation of around 3%.  No, they haven't pegged their prices for the past even one year.  There have been year on year increases.  Now all we need is the electricity bill, to discover how much that'll be going up by.  And no, I don't think Competition will help us at all.

Then you, perhaps Dear Reader, wonder why we haven't had the gas fires on yet*, not since about April-May, and are beginning to dig out our blankets, woolly socks and jumpers.  Actually I'm still wearing my wool/cotton mix socks - which have the uncomfortable habit of swiveling round on my feet so that, on a bad day, the heels end up on top of my feet!  Anyone know what I'm doing wrong with them?  Please?

As I've said before, cooler weather is what knitting is made for.  All the same, I wonder about those who have families to feed, low-paid or no jobs and uninsulated homes.  How are they to manage?

Y'all have a good day now!

*That and it really hasn't been cold enough.
