I've said it before, Dear Reader, but it bears repeating.  READING IS IMPORTANT.  A study apparently found that the likelihood of someone ending up in prison was directly linked to their literacy, or lack of it.  Which is not to say that those who are fluent readers and writers won't commit crimes and be committed, but it is significant.  Perhaps one thing prisons could do to really rehabilitate offenders is to ensure they leave fully literate.  Not with the reading age of between 7 and 11 they had when they left school, at 16, after 12 years in formal education!

What you read is also important - try reading Neil Gaiman on reading fiction, particularly SciFi and Fantasy.  Oh, and get the books from your local library - we've already paid for them in our local taxes after all.

On the weather front - there was a tornado along Hayling Island seafront yesterday morning!  We just had bouts of sunshine here, interspersed with really heavy rain.  Pardon?  No, thank you, I don't want a tornado any nearer here.

Stating the obvious - War is a Bad Thing.  Conditions in Syria have been so bad, for so long, that there's now a risk of a polio outbreak.  Just when you seem to be getting on top of something somewhere . . .  Never mind sub-Saharan Africa, especially Nigeria, where villagers reckon the polio vaccine is a Western plot to sterilise them!  Of course, the un-immunised act as a reservoir for the disease, which can then break out and infect people.  Only then do they realise quite what a Bad Thing polio is.  Then, maybe, they'll try to get immunised.  Ack!

That can be it for today.  Y'all have a good day now!
