In rasslin' land the level of success you have is broken down into tiers. You have your jobbers. They're usually the smaller or less talented guys that as a general rule suck. Most of the time they get their asses kicked and they pretty much lose every match. But they make other guys look like badasses so even in defeat they're still kinda valuable in a tiny little way.
The next level up is your mid-card guys. They're usually pretty solid rasslers. However, they usually specialize in certain areas and are severely lackin' in others. Maybe they're amazing at jumpin' off the top rope but suck when they're asked to talk about matters at hand. Perhaps they're funny guys that make the crowd laugh, but they can't rassle a lick. But you need mid-card guys because they take up time. They can start the show off hot for you or be used as a buffer in between the bigger matches so the crowd doesn't get burnt out from cheering. They're essential in maintaining the pace for the shows.
Continuin' up the card you have your upper mid-card guys. These rasslers are above-average in most rassling catergories. Usually pretty good in the ring or great with a microphone in their hands. These are typically the dudes you expect to have your best matches in the ring. They hold your secondary titles. They do all the things your typical mid-carders do, just better. However, typically these guys don't make you monies. And rasslin' is all about the MONIES! Sure maybe they sell some t-shirts or other merchandise. But people aren't buyin' tickets to see these guys. Which is unfortunate, because on paper your upper mid-carders are usually your most well-rounded talents.
What every rassler should strive for is to be a main eventer. Main event guys close the shows. They are booked in the biggest matches. They're the guys that travel the road night-in and night out. Always the last to leave the arena. Some are phenomenal in-ring talents. Some have transcendent mic skills. They usually sell a lot of t-shirts and put tons of asses in the seats. These guys are at the top of their profession because they worked hard to get there and they don't take days off. They're there every show busting ass and entertaining the masses. They make the companies the most monies and they're rewarded all perks and benefits that come from excelling at their craft. They're your rock when business is down. Always there.
There's one more category of rassler. The One-timers. They are your biggest stars. Sometimes so big they transcend rassling itself. Sometimes they can only rassle a limited number of matches 'cause they're old. Sometimes they command less dates for more monies because they're that big of stars in the industry. Whenever they have matches the bouts are HUGE. More important than any of the other matches. They cast a shadow over all your other rasslers. And on occasion that's ok, because they make the company tons of monies when they show up.he fans love them or love to hate them. But they cost a ton of monies too and they're usually either a hassle or limited for a variety of reasons.
I always want to be a main-eventer. I put in my time as a jobber gettin' my ass kicked. I fought back and worked my way up thru the mid-card. Sometimes though, I feel like those One-Timers. The dude that can just come in and have a money-makin' match and then I'm gone for weeks or months at a time. I don't wanna be that. I wanna be on every show. I wanna travel the roads and be the last one to depart from the arena every night. I have that mentality.
Yet I feel as if the bookers of the world want me to be other places on the card. Spots I know I'm better than. If you ask me I'll tell you that I'm the best and I deserve to be at the top. I don't get hurt. I make the fans happy. I show up every week. I don't wanna be any where else but the top. I'll work my way up there till I make it because I know in my heart of hearts that I deserve to be there.
One day I'll be main-eventing. I've worked too hard to be anything less. I love it. And when you love something you do everything in your power to give back tenfold all the happiness that your passion has given you. You know that circle of Life Lion King shit.
I just don't wanna be the one-timer. I don't want to ever reach the point where I'm told you can't do this every day nor do I wanna reach the point where I have no desire to be here every night. I don't like to pop in and then not get to come back for long stretches. I prefer to be in the thick of things, good or bad, each and every week. I'm here for the long haul. That's what makes a champion.
Hustle. Loyalty. Respect. Tune in to find out!
