Another day in Wonderland
Life is unpredictable.
Just when you think you know where you're at, some will come and yank the ground from beneath your feet. Then they stand over you and laugh, saying, "You? Who are you to understand what is?"
You wrap your arms around yourself, deny them your tears. "I am! I know who I am! I understand. I KNOW, GODDAMNIT!"
You feel them come behind you. They do not touch you, they have no need to. You do not hear them. They cast no shadow. You sense that they are behind you
And like a voice in the wind, they whisper in your ear, "No, Child. You do not understand."
They bend closer. You know they will not harm you, you know that you are as safe now as you could ever possibly be, but still, for reasons unknown to you, you are terrified. You want them there, you need them. They are your protectors.
That does not removed the prey-like fear from your mind.
They wrap their arms around you. You want to lean against them; you want to run, run and not look behind you, run and never cease, go somewhere safe.
But you stay.
And they say, in the most gentle of voices:
"But I will help you. I will show you. I will teach you, keep you safe. They need never know. And from then on out, it is your decision, what happens."
What have you done?
And where will I end?
