Hi all - I just posted an 'intro' the other day, but to recap, I'm getting married (in the US) and moving to the UK (to Scotland) in May/June, and I'd like to know if anyone has any recommendations for door-to-door moving companies. I've read back over a few pages of posts under this tag but only found one reference back a bit that linked to a ( Read more... )

Two years ago I used Rainier Overseas Movers, they were good, no hidden charges, etc.

Have you read the International Moves page on movingscam.com yet?

We used them as well, when we moved from Florida to England. They were very good.

Thank you for seconding that recommendation :-). It's good to hear from people who have used a company, to get an idea of how things went!

We moved from San Diego to the UK in October of last year. Can't remember the name of the company we used but I'll find out for you, they did a great job, only 2 mugs broke. And we moved our whole house basically! We did do all our own packing and unpacking though, to save money.

Thank you! I think it was indeed your reference :-). It sounds like they did a good job for you, especially with getting it to your house despite the glitch at the end. Thanks for the information!

Hi, I am planning to use I Q Global for my move from NY to London, thanks to this post. Would you recommend to get everything palletized? I am trying to get to grips with all the terms.

Thanks so much for your advice,
Kate

I don't have a suggestion for a company...but we're moving a single pallet worth of boxes (1 square meter) and the *cheapest* price I could find to do that was £220.

Unless the items you're moving are heirlooms, I'd seriously consider NOT moving the furniture/household items and just buying again here. It may very well work out to be cheaper.

Thank you for the suggestion/advice. Some of the items do mean a great deal to me, so I do want to take them. Others, like my bed - well, if it would add as much to the cost to move it as to buy a new one when I get there, I may rethink sending it. But I have so little, it will hopefully not cost too much. Thanks for responding!

Something to consider when it comes to moving furniture - UK rooms are generally a lot smaller than US ones, so US furniture sometimes looks too big for the room - or won't fit at all! - when it gets here...

Yes - for example 10 foot by 12' would be considered a 'big' bedroom, but once you've put a king-size bed in it there's not much space!
