ff reviewer...what?

Right, maybe it's because I don't post fan fictions a lot, maybe it's because when I do I post on ff.net (though, honestly, I never figured out how I was supposed to go about posting on forum or archives or private sites. There are so many and they seem to all know each other and it's like being the new kid at school when you have a ball but all the kids are playing with their balls together and you just don't really know how to join in, even if it's probably easier than it looks, but it looks so exclusive...)
So, I started writing a story that I, frankly, wasn't expecting reviews from. It's a Twilight fic and I'm pretty heavy handed with my alterations to the characters. I just...wanted to have fun with a fic that I don't take too seriously.
Anyway, turns out I've gotten quite a few reviews. Color me surprised. Clearly a lot of them are quite young, but their enthusiasm is appreciated.
However, I recently got a response that confuses me. The reviewer starts out by saying the story isn't very well written. Then proceeds to ask for longer chapters.
I've just sat there and stared at it for a long while.
What the heck?
I mean, if they don't like the writing, or the story, or have an issue with the quality then that's they're prerogative, but...
What am I supposed to take from that? Was it a compliment or an insult? Was it a backhanded compliment? Were they trying to be funny?
Maybe I'm just being too logical but if the writing quality is questionable than the length of a piece will not improve it in any way, so the critique coupled with that suggestion boggles me.
It's just... O.o ???
