Weird weather

So I'm starting to plan for my trip to Japan in a little more detail (it being two weeks from today). And I figured that inspecting the weather is a good first start.

Tokyo compared to Vancouver.

So Tokyo is weird: it rains a *lot* in the summer, and very little in the winter. It's currently warmer in Tokyo than it is in Vancouver, so I don't need to buy pants, shorts will do just fine.

For the craic, I compared it to Dublin.

Before I flew here, I recall reading that Dublin had about the same annual rainfall as Vancouver. Anecdotally, Ireland simply *felt* more wet than Vancouver does. The rain in Vancouver tends to be spitting rather than any 'serious' rain we talk about in Ireland. Frequently, when it rained in Ireland you'd be soaked to the skin after 5 minutes, tops. I've never had this happen once in Vancouver.

And yet those statistics indicate that Vancouver gets (more than) 2.5 times the amount of rainfall in winter, 1117mm of rain total for the year compared to 731mm for the year for Dublin...

And Tokyo gets 1406mm per year. Double Dublin.

Who'd have thunk, eh?
