So I was at my brother's grade 8 graduation the other day, which was crazy in and of itself. He's 14, I can't believe it. I vividly remember when my parents called us from the hospital, my younger brother and I were at the babysitter's house and I was crying and saying I didn't even want to go the hospital to meet the baby because I wanted a sister. Time flies, it's ridiculous. He even grew and his voice deepened during the 2 weeks my mom and I were in France.
Anyway, the funny thing is kids nowadays. I remember my grade 8 graduation, I wore a dress my mom got for $10 at the Sears warehouse. It a white dress with tiny flowers scattered around. It was sleeveless and the neckline and back came all the way up to my clavicle. The arms were cut right up to my armpits, the dress dragged along the floor. Nothing showing. I don't even remember what shoes I wore, because you couldn't see them anyway. No one else was wearing anything too crazy.
At my brother's grad? The girls were wearing 3-4 inch heels, knee-length dresses, strapless, halter necklines, etc. Hair done up. What? Guys were sharply dressed, and I mean sharp. 3-piece suits even. Everyone was dressed up to the nines. Me and my mom's favourite dude at the ceremony was one of my bro's basketball teammates. He was wearing a purple dress shirt with white pants and a white vest, white tie, white fedora, stud earring glistening, and a freshly cut short mohawk. Leather cell phone clip on his belt. Like are you kidding me dude? You're 13-14! We were laughing so hard, not at the kid but just at the fact that he was so stylin'. My other favourite kid was wearing a magenta shirt with a black vest and pants, with a tie that was also pink-purple but still perfectly contrasting. Young guys wearing colours? Great job. Back in my day that wouldn't happen.
It was just a funny day. I guess kids nowadays are acting older? I don't know. I don't even want to think about when my youngest bro will be graduating grade 8...*shudder*...too far into the future.
