A/N: Contains some lyrics from the song 'You Move Me' sung by Garth Brooks.. I had the idea after talking to one of my friends who once was sooo Anti-Country Music (being that he's in a punk band and all)and had said he only listened to it when he was drunk.. Since this friend reminds me of Logan.... Well yeah...

This is how it seems to me
Life is only therapy
Real expensive and no guarantees

She’s pretty sure it can’t get much worse than this. When she finds him on the beach, he’s drunk listening to some sort of music that has a distinctive twang. Country? Yes Logan is listening to country music, Garth Brooks no less she realizes as the voice blares. The end of the world is coming, she’s sure of it now. All she needs to see now is Cassidy wearing a shirt that says ‘I love my big brother’ and she’ll know the world is ready to blow.

She wanted to hurt Weevil when he called her. She had told him it was midnight and she was attempting to sleep. She hates the fact that he laughed at her like he had done nothing wrong.

“Your boy is on the beach.” He had spoken. “He’s messed up V, you might wanta head that way.”

So she had listened, because when it comes to Logan she always seems to listen. “Just great.” She mutters to herself as she heads down the beach almost stumbling in the sand.

She wonders for a moment how many people go to the beach at midnight in pajama pants and a tank top. She’s glad that she at least remembered to grab her jacket as she rushed out the door.

“Never took you for a Garth fan.” She speaks from behind Logan. He doesn’t bother looking up at her; he just takes another drink and grunts.

“It’s Dick’s.” He speaks. “He left it in the Xterra. He listens to it when he’s wasted.”

“Taking up Dick’s habits? That worries me.” Veronica muses.

“So now you’re questioning my preferences in music?” He mutters. “Really Veronica, do you always have to be so annoying?”

“Well I try.” She shrugs as she takes a seat beside him.

“How’d you know I was here?” He frowns staring at the half empty bottle in front of him.

“Weevil.”

“Figures.”

“What? No Weevil joke? Now I am worried.”

He looks at her and she suddenly realizes that his eyes are puffy and red. He’s been crying, and from the look on his face she’s pretty sure he’s far from done. She remembers the look on his face from the last time he broke down in front of her.

“Talk to me Logan.” She whispers pulling her legs up to her chest.

“I’m not really in the mood for a heart to heart Veronica.”

“Logan stop.”

He looks like he’s about to speak, but then stops and lowers his head. Tears brim in his eyes again and when she reaches out and touches his face he lets out a tired sob. “I don’t want to go to prison Veronica.”

It shocks her at first, how quickly he just lets go. Then she remembers this is her Logan and suddenly it doesn’t surprise her at all.

“You won’t.” She tells him. “We won’t let that happen.”

“Do you know what they do to people like me in prison?” He chokes dropping the bottle from his hand. “I, I can’t go there.”

“You’re not going to prison Logan.” She declares. “I won’t let you go.”

“Can you help me?” He whispers, “Like you did Duncan? Help me get out of here?”

His voice is so childlike, so scared that she can’t help but feel tears in her eyes too. She moves closer to him and wraps one arm around him. He’s suddenly collapsing in her arms now and she can’t help but hold him close to her. One hand rests his in hair stroking it softly as the other braces him against her. He smells like cologne and alcohol and she inhales the scent because it’s been so long since she’s had him this close.

“No.” She speaks through tears her voice determined. “I’m not letting you leave Logan. I’m not going to loose you too.”

“But Duncan….”

“Are you hearing me?” She questions, “I’m not loosing you!”

He nods lightly in her arms and she thinks he finally understands. She refuses to put Logan in a car and send him away from her forever. The thought it too much for her, never seeing Logan again is more than she can handle. She’s not sure why she never let the thought penetrate her brain, but suddenly she’s trying to imagine a life without Logan and it hurts. Loosing Duncan was hard, but she knew she had to do it. This seems different; the thought of it causes an ache that is so raw she refuses to even speak the words out loud.

She rests her chin on the top of his head and closes her eyes. He’s crying uncontrollably and she’s not sure if it’s from the alcohol or if he’s finally breaking from all he’s been through in the last few months.

“I’m scared.” She hears him say. “Veronica, I’m scared.”

“Shhhh.” She breathes to him. “You’re ok Logan, trust me, just trust me please.” She pleads so helpless she’s not even sure if she’s helping anymore.

You give me courage I didn't know I had
And you move me
And I can't go with you and stay where I am
So you move me

She’s not sure how in the middle of their break down she manages to hear the words from the song that’s playing, but she does and she finds them fitting somehow.

They are who they are alone or together they’re connected in a way no one understands. It’s not even about Lilly anymore she thinks as he slowly moves away from her wiping his eyes. What they share is all about them, their feelings, and their actions. They will always share Lilly, but this, this thing she feels for him has long went past the connection they made over her best friend.

She comes out of her thoughts to see that he’s staring at her. His eyes are squinted but he’s watching her just the same. She drops her head when she realizes he’s studying her and then his hand is on her chin forcing her to look back up at him again.

“We…” He begins in a whisper. “Are a mess.”

“That we are.” She agrees forcing a faint smile.

“You didn’t have to come tonight.” He speaks and it’s almost a question more than a statement.

“Ah wasn’t like I was doing anything important.” She shrugs nonchalantly.

He looks at her for a moment scanning her from head to toe, “You’re in pajamas Veronica.”

“Well the invitation to this party said dress casual.” She smiled.

He chuckles lightly at her comment and looks down to see her hand resting in the sand. When he rests his on hers she doesn’t flinch instead she’s grateful for contact. His fingers slink through hers then and he looks at her almost as if he’s asking permission. When she relaxes her hand in his he lets out a small breath.

Veronica just smiles at the gesture and watches as he turns his head back the water. They sit like this for the longest, just staring out at the darkness.

She doesn’t know what any of it means, but that really doesn’t matter now. In her mind she’s thinking over his case, looking for the best game plan. She couldn’t save Lilly, and she still isn’t sure if she actually saved Duncan, but Logan she can help. She won’t loose him like she did the others.

“So superwoman, what’s the plan.” He questions after what feels like forever. “Which super power are you going to use to get me out of this?”

“Actually, Weevil told me he’d handle it.” She sighs watching as his eyes widen.

“You want me to trust Weevil with my life?” He screeches.

“I’d trust him with mine.” She counters watching as he lets out a huff and rolls his eyes.

“Maybe that’s because he wants you two to marry and have twenty blonde midgets.”

Her eyes widen at his words and then they’re both laughing harder than either of them has laughed since Lilly. Logan looses his balance and tumbles back into the sand as the laughter rumbles from lips. He looks up at Veronica and sees that she’s pointing at him through her own laughter. With a smirk he grabs her quickly and pulls her down with him her head falling back into the soft sand.

You go whistlin' in the dark
Making light of this, making light of this
And I follow with my heart, laughing all the way

As the words in the song suddenly echo out at them Veronica realizes the stupid song had been on repeat the whole time. She hears Logan mutter something about Dick and country music and then when she looks at him he’s smiling.

He wraps an arm around her lifting her so that her head is now resting on his shoulder instead of the sand. She’s not sure what it means, what any of this means but for the moment it’s nice.

“I should get you home.” She tells him softly.

“I can drive.”

“Try again.” She warns.

“Just a few more minutes?” He asks with a tiny pout. “Please?” His voice is so soft that it reminds her of a time that seems so long ago.

She nods her head in agreement because she’s not ready to let go yet either. When the sun rises the world will go back to being ugly and scary. Logan will be sober and they’ll have a lot to figure out. Right now nothing has to make sense. Logan is still slightly drunk and she’s too tired to think. Just being is all that she really cares about in this moment.

“Veronica what are we doing?” Logan questions through a tired yawn.

“Tomorrow Logan, we’ll talk about tomorrow.”

“But it is tomorrow.” He whispers closing his eyes.

“Then we’ll talk about it soon.” She promises.

“Ok.” He mutters and she knows he’s falling to sleep.

“Logan we need to go now.” She tells him moving slightly.

“Just a few more minutes Veronica.” He says in a sleepy fog.

She watches his eyes flutter open, and then close again and she smiles to herself. Just as she’s ready to wake him for real his phone goes off and she sees it sitting in the sand inches away from her. When grabs it quickly and reads the name on caller ID.

“Logan’s phone how may I help you?”

“You didn’t answer your cell.”

“Well Eli, I didn’t know you cared.”

“Things ok?”

“Yeah, it’s all under control.” She nods looking at the sleeping boy in the sand. She smirks at the image and then turns back to listen to Weevil.

“Next time answer your phone.” Weevil instructs her and she can tell by his tone that he has been worried.

”It was in the car sorry.” She whispers. “Weevil, we’ve got to get him out of this.” She breathes. “He can’t go to jail.”

“Don’t worry V, I got it handled.” Weevil promises.

“And when it’s over we can all eat popcorn and watch DVDs at my house like normal teens?” She questions cheerfully.

“Nothing normal about us chica.” He scoffs into the phone.

“Can’t a girl dream?” Veronica pouts glancing over at Logan as he starts to stir.

“Only if you’re dreamin’ about me.” Weevil teases.

“Always!” She giggles and then becomes serious again, “I need to go Weevil, he’s waking up.”

“You two still at the beach?”

“Yeah, he’s been sleeping….in the sand.” She hesitants and when she finishes she hears Weevil chuckling.

“You know how to pick em’ V.” He sighs.

“Bye Weevil.”

“Later V.”

She turns to Logan as she stands up and dusts off the sand. “You ready now?” She questions reaching out a hand for him to take.

“Yeah.” He nods groggy. “Let’s go.”

He takes her hand and stands to his feet as she wraps a protective arm around him to help him walk up the beach. “You ok?” She asks watching him closely.

“I’m so going to have a hangover from this one.” He moans.

“That’s ok, I’ll be here.” She laughs and means every word of it.

Oh how you move me
