Sick Again

Nov 16, 2007 20:00

Well, apparently even frequent hand-washing and well above eight glasses of water per day isn't enough to stave off sickness forever. On Wednesday I came down with something very nasty and was quite unable to finish my day at the University, leaving early. That morning, I didn't feel very bad, but I was sneezing a good deal more than usual. Then came what is always the harbinger of illness. The sore throat. What a disaster. I got barely any sleep that night and awoke Thursday morning feeling feverish, dizzy, sore of throat and stuffy of nose. Thursday is normally my heaviest day at university, so I had to take the day off. Thankfully, I was able to get a good night's sleep last night and now feel much better - only a nagging tickle remains. I was planning to go the doctor and get my flu shot tomorrow, but obviously that isn't happening - I'm still planning on going, of course, to see if there's anything really wrong with me...

In other news, the last new episode of The Office aired last night. It's one of the earliest primetime shows to be affected by the strike, with most of the other sitcoms and dramas coming off the air within the next two weeks. It was good, as always. Alas... All the more incentive to rush out and get Season Three on DVD. According to several surveys, the public is largely behind the writers, but there seems to have been little serious discussion about ending this strike early. No, what we have is a war of attrition. The writers are definitely doing their best to win over the viewers. For example, the writers of The Office (many of whom also act on the show) created a video explaining their cause. They retained all the charm and wit you would expect... Save for the obligatory picket-line chanting. Come on, you're writers. Surely you can do better than "Hollywood's A Union Town." Oh well. I guess we can't expect miracles.

Length Of Writers' Strike 2007: 12 days (and counting)
