On Writing

Nov 06, 2007 20:00

Unfortunately, real life of the non-academic variety has proven far more pervasive than I had anticipated... Don't worry, there are no real negatives, but that combined with my lack of zeal for posting has brought an end to my "NaNoEdMo" project before it got off the ground. As much as I'm happy with myself for actually finishing the first draft, LJ probably wasn't the best place for it. Only one person (you know who you are. Yes, you. I'm talking to... Oh, wait, I did that already) actually provided me with some much appreciated feedback.

For my second draft, I think the best way to deal with things is to send chapters to be proof-read (or beta-read, as is the term nowadays) to various friends who would provide some perspective. Of course, many of my friends are overwhelmed with work for the time being, but once they clear their schedule to the best of their ability, hopefully they can spare some time.

On the positive side, expect some Brainbin Reviews in the near future.

On the negative side, the Writers' Strike is a go, and (it figures) The Office is entirely peopled with writers and those who are very supportive of the strike, so all production grinded to a screeching halt on Monday. For the official record, I do support the cause of the writers, whom I have always felt to be the most underappreciated contributors to the entertainment industry, especially relative to their workload. But as I am not a member of the WGA and thus have nothing to gain and plenty to lose, I will be complaining far more than I will be exhibiting Solidarity Forever.

Effective immediately, I will be posting a bulletin at the bottom of all my LJ posts, informing my (completely uninterested) readers of the duration of this strike. May cooler heads prevail! (Not likely in the entertainment industry, alas. The last one ran for months.)

Length of Writers' Strike 2007: 2 days (and counting)
