I know, it took awhile. Just deal with it. And enjoy!
Chapter Four: Echoes of the Past
-=Day 2=-
“Liza!”
“Haley!”
The two good friends greeted each other with screams of each other’s name as Liza opened the door. Haley ran forward, though the door was barely half opened, and wrapped her arms around Liza’s neck. The brunette was almost knocked off her feet as she in turn wrapped her arms around the blonde’s body. They embraced tightly, Haley still giggling with glee. In behind his wife walked Tony Rossi. His smile was just as inviting and delighted. He strolled in, wearing a black t-shirt with the writing “Enraged Oblivion” across the front. His large, muscled and tattooed arms were clearly visible since the sleeves were so short.
“Haley, hunnie, I’m happy to see you too. But I need to breath.” Liza said.
“Oh my, I’m sorry Liza. I’m just so excited to see you!” Haley said, her smile shining. Her hair was down and shining brightly in the light of the hallway. Her flowered white blouse illuminated her hair even more.
“I know! How are you, Mrs. Rossi?” She asked, smiling back. She fixed her blue t-shirt and fixed her long brown hair, which was currently in a ponytail.
Haley’s cheeks turned bright red as Tony came up behind her and took her hand in his own. “Absolutely amazing.” She replied.
“We’ve been great.” Tony said, looking down at her.
“Jeez, all the commotion in the hallway. Why don’t you all come in and see everyone?” Jeff said, emerging in the hallway. The three near the door turned to look at him then quickly followed after. When they turned in, they came to an uproar of cheers. Because inside the living room, all of their friends were either sitting or standing, waiting for them. The TV was buzzing softly in the background; the news was on. Hugs, kisses and hand shakes went around between everyone before they all calmed down and took seats.
“Wow, I can’t remember the last time I saw all of us together like this.” Jen said, gleefully. Her brown hair was pulled up in a ponytail and she was wearing a white tank top. CJ, her partner, sat next to her wearing his police pants but with a black tank top.
“We’ve all been so busy; it’s hard to see each other.” CJ said. Everyone nodded and agreed.
“Hey Sacco, how’s the school going?” Jeff asked. His hair was just as long as it had been before he was captured and his glasses were resting snugly on his nose. His striped shirt was buttoned very loosely.
“It’s been good. Teaching the techniques that I learned is fairly easy, especially when everyone seems interested in it.” Garret replied. He had barely changed; his hair was just as short and spiky, his goatee was a little longer but his physique was massive due to his immense karate training.
“How’s school going for you two?” Liza asked Samfa, who was sitting next to Cameron.
“It’s great! I’m having so much fun! I can’t wait to actually start teaching kids.” She replied, smiling brightly. Her hair was flowing down to half-way down her back.
“It’s been really good. I use most of what I learn at school at Sam’s lab because I feel it will help us.” Cameron said. His hair was much shorter than it used to be.
“Speaking of it, how is the research going?” David asked, looking over at Sam. He had barely changed except he was wearing a suit that was part of his job.
“It’s going slowly. It’s really hard to harness the energy and power behind electromagnetic energy. But we keep trying and I’m more than sure that we’re close to making a breakthrough.” He said.
“So you mean…we could soon open a portal again?” Natalie asked softly.
There was a moment of silence. “Yeah, hopefully.” Cameron said. Everyone fell silent as they all recollected about the past and what opening the portal could mean. But Jeff broke the silence.
“Anyways, so I made dinner for everyone. Now let’s eat!” Jeff said loudly and proud.
Everyone cheered and made their way towards the dining room.
* * * * * * * * * * * *
“Well that was absolutely delicious.” Haley said as she plopped down on the couch. Garret was already sitting on the couch, drinking a soda. He was watching the news.
“Yeah, I never knew that Jeff was such a good cook.” Garret said, smiling. “You’d think the only thing he was good at was solving equations and making potions.”
Both of them laughed at Garret’s joke. After getting their entire chuckling out, they silenced down and listened to their friends still eating and talking in the dining room.
“It’s nice, isn’t it?” Garret said, looking at Haley.
“It really is.” Haley responded. “I love seeing everyone together.”
“I know what you mean.” Garret said softly.
Haley looked at him, studying his features. Then she spoke cautiously. “You wish you had a chance to get to know him, don’t you?” Haley asked softly.
Garret smiled. “Yeah, I do. The only time I really got to know him, I took a knife to the gut for him.”
“I’m sure he appreciated it.” She said.
“And even then, I feel like I didn’t do enough. Take him for example; he took his own life to save our world.” He responded.
“You saved his life. You gave him that chance. You live up to what he was too. I promise.”
“Thanks Haley.” He said, looking at her. His eyebrow ruffled and he gave her a questioning look. She responded by looking at him with the same look. A small sly grin snuck onto his face.
“Haley…you’re-…” He started.
She squealed and covered his mouth with her hand. She looked back into the dining room then looked back at him. “Shhh.”
He took her hand away. “Haley, when did you know?” He said softly.
“Tony and I found out this morning. I just want to surprise everyone together.” She whispered. She was beaming.
“Well, congratulations to you two.” He said as he quickly glanced at the news.
“I know, it’s really…exciting…” She slowed down her words as she noticed Garret was leaning forwards, towards the TV. She glanced at it.
One the screen was destruction. Flaming buildings, cars flipped everywhere and bodies strewn on the ground. Garret picked up the remote quickly and turned the volume up extremely loud, so loud that everyone in the dining room could hear it. A female reporter’s voice washed into the apartment.
“This is the scene that has unfolded in Revere, Massachusetts. Nearly every building that was standing has either collapsed or is still burning. Police have not identified anyone that has caused this destruction, but eye witness accounts claim that nearly a dozen figures covered in cloaks were the culprits. They and I quote “shot lightning out of their hands”. Now police officials aren’t saying anything but considering the number of people with this claim, this reporter finds it hard to disbelieve. The body count is uncertain but it continues to rise almost every minute. We’ll keep you up to date with every new development.”
By now, everyone was in the living room watching the news. No one said a word as the report went back to the news desk. No sound could be heard from any of the group, as they all stared blankly at the TV. Where destruction that was almost all too familiar had occurred again. All they could do was stare, fear…
And wonder.
