Day 3 (Dec 29): Over the Coral and Past the Beach...
Once again, we all started the day by waking slowly, eating a little, and listening to the Abaco short-wave morning radio show (called The Net). Shortly after, we went down to the beach to swim in the super-clear ocean with some snorkeling equipment looking down at some coral a mere thirty feet or so out from the beach. Laying in the sun, Alek (Christen's brother) started burying my feet, made his way up to my neck, gave me a snorkel breathing-tube and threw a towel over my face to bury it as well. He, Fay, and Lauren (Christen's two sisters) drew a smiley face where my head was and Lauren gave me a penis and boobs. Shortly after, she chopped them off-I screamed through my snorkel in mock horror and pain. I erupted through the sand like some monster and took a dip to wash off.
We played with a really cute golden retriever and it's really cute little-boy owner before going back to the house. A quick change later we walked along the beach to a hotel called The Lodge. The sand here is the nicest sand I've ever felt-it's like half mud/half sand and it squishes through the toes wonderfully. Half the walk back was over rocky coral-forms rising ten feet or so above the beach. Over this, we passed huge numbers of snails nestled in the holes in the coral as well as what looked like ancient ruins-cement remains of a house long gone and grown over.
Arriving at The Lodge, we sat at a table between the swimming pool and the blue, palm-framed ocean beside a very bahamian bar. We played Mexican Train (a dominoes game) until Christen's dad arrived. Then we went over to Gussy's (Christen's mom's cousin) new place by the bay. Christen, Alek, Gussy's kids, and I hung out there for a couple of hours playing cards, reading, etc. For dinner, we ate some of Gussy's rice and beans and went to The Edge for pizza are fireworks. We admired the fireworks while trying to teach Alek piglatin and randomly speaking different languages.
Eventually we made our way back to our house and went to bed around 9:45pm. We went to bed so early because...well...we were tired. We really are most interested in the fun and sun, so the night and lights hold little interest for us. Sleep came quickly and waking came late.
