Bahamas: Day Two

Day 2: It Begins in Earnest
Woke up, ate Vernon's Homemade Bread, and headed to the beach. In magazines and what-not, we've seen bright blue, crystal-clear water with white sand, coral bits, and no one else to speak of. I am here to tell you that such natural beauty exists, and it is attainable-and it's so awe-inspiring to experience.
After playing in the water for a while, I took a walk down the beach to the left. I walked until the beach turned into coral (more than a mile), taking a bunch of pictures along the way. I crossed up a private beach access, around the house, and to a remote part of the main road. I climbed a mound of sand to get a good view then walked back past our house to my starting point on our beach. It's easy to say "our beach" and whatnot because on this whole trip I saw, perhaps twenty-five people. There are so few people; it's wonderful. On our beach again, I laid out with Christen and older female family. When packing up, Lauren saw a large barracuda swim by the shore, maybe twenty feet out. We chased it until it turned toward the sea.
Came back to the house, ate a bit, had a great little conversation about perspective with one of Barbara's cousins, and went out with Christen, Lauren, Guy 1 and Guy 2 to their house. Inspired by Harry Nilsson's Coconut, we put a lime in the coconut and drank them both together (with rum, of course). We drilled a hole, cleared the debris with a straw, poured in juiced lime/rum, and drank-too much lime, apparently.
We went onto the roof and watched the stars for a while. I had forgotten that the stars were so many. In the thumb/pointer circle I could see ten or twenty. Beautiful.
Coming into town, we went to Drunken Jack's for drinks and dancing. The Girls and two guys had tequila shots and went from there. We danced for a while; Barbera got silly and Lauren worked the room like the pro she is.
Christed just went to bed on the couch and I'm sitting across from her typing this. She is beautiful. The Bahamas are beautiful.
I finished the day by kissing Christen goodnight, talking with Barbara about drinking, and catching up on this journal. I'm going to bed now, as happy as happy can be.

trip, bahamas
