Bahamas: Day Four

Day 4 (Dec 30): The Excursion

After the usual waking, breakfasting, writing yesterday's entry, and talking a bit, Christen's dad led a group of us on a snorkeling/diving trip led by a friend we made in the Edge the first night (his name is Scooby as in both Doo and a scuba instructor). The trip out was nice in the large boat. It's amazing how clear the water is around here. A guy watching the front said he saw a sea turtle (sea turtles, mate). Stopping at a reef, Christen, Fay, and her dad (and his underwater-outfitted camera) went scuba diving and the rest of us went snorkeling. There were some gorgeous fish down there, but the reef itself was much less colorful than I thought it was going to be-perhaps you need to be diving to get the good colors. The guides fed the fish so they swam right up close. It was neat. However, For whatever reason I can't really swim so well-it takes real effort to stay afloat, not wear out, and bring in enough breath. It seems like something at which I'd be okay, but alas.
We headed to a restaurant called Grabbers in Grana Bay. It was very nice, but it took two hours to get food-that's unnecessary. And angering. And the food wasn't even that good. But the Bahamas are so fucking chill that I wasn't even that bothered. Imagine that. Me not bothered in waiting for food for two hours. Me.
To finish the day off, we went to Gussy's for dinner, reading, card games, and conversation. We finally headed back to our house around 9:30pm. Everything ended well until Christen wanted to go to bed. Fay and I were too reluctant to let her go because bothering her was much more fun. It was fun until I got annoyed at something after which we had a long talk about a lot of things-abstract, practical, internal, external. It ended on a not-bad note and went to my bed with a "good night."

trip, bahamas
