'...don't wanna be your favorite enemy, not when i could be loving you...'

So onceuponaland finally has another writing challenge that allows for 500+ words, and I'm so uninspired, IDEK if I can come up with something by the 15th. It's just hard for me to think up fic ideas on my own, and since the 'prompt' is simply 'Write a fic about.... whatever you want', I'm stumped! *gnaws nails*

I kinda wanna do a crossover, only I'm having a hard time thinking of characters that can plausibly turn up in Storybrooke (sure, it'd be awesome to have Emily Thorne conspiring with Regina on how best to exact revenge on their enemies, but it'd take a better writer than me to do that justice)...or an AU, but again, having carte blanche to do whatever I want is paralyzing me, augh. Any ideas? Something that'll allow me to write about Regina and Emma would be good. I flirted briefly with the idea of writing about what'd happen if Regina kept her locked up in a castle, lol, but I can't work out how to resolve that, so it'll have to go on the back-burner.

There's also the crackfic-in-waiting: when a couple people mentioned in discussion that a) Belle would've fallen for any captor that treated her half-decently and b) Rumpel and Regina basically wanted the same thing, they both held Belle captive...my mind immediately wondered what would've happened if Regina was the Beast and she'd kept Belle prisoner. I want someone who isn't me to write this.

Have a gratuitous picture of the Evil Queen to motivate you to help me with ideas :P

Speaking of evil queens, apparently this live adaptation of Sleeping Beauty with a focus on Maleficent might actually be happening! >:D PLEASE BE LEGIT.

Disney's Maleficent, a live-action origins story starring Angelina Jolie as one of Disney's most iconic villians, is eyeing a June start date in London.

Robert Stromberg will direct Maleficent from a script by Linda Woolverton and is already in the U.K. prepping the film. Maleficent is a passion project for Jolie and will be her next acting role.

One possibility for the role of Aurora is Elle Fanning, who is in talks to join the cast. Fanning's star status rose last year with Somewhere and J.J. Abrams sci-fi movie Super 8.

Jolie has long been toying with the idea of playing the famous fairy-sorceress in the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale. In December she told THR her children want her to make the movie and even call her "mom-elicent." She's also eager to make a live-action family film after her experience voicing the Kung Fu Panda franchise.

Jolie told THR that she was drawn to screenwriter Woolverton's revisionist take on the fairy tale and the complex relationship between Maleficent and Sleeping Beauty.

a) I love Angelina Jolie, so I'm thrilled that she's going to be in a movie I'm actually interested in. (sorry, but those Oscar-bait movies exposing the cruel things humans inflict on other humans IRL just doesn't appeal to me, I am all about blockbuster action-adventure movie escapism, okay)

b) ELLE FANNING?! I think both Fanning sisters are flawless, so if Elle is in this, that's extra awesome!

c) VILLAIN PROTAGONIST, ZOMG. I love my villains, so the idea of a movie focused on one makes me happy! (assuming it doesn't end up like Russell Crowe's Robin Hood which was originally meant to be about the Sheriff of Nottingham. Yeah. :/ Look how that turned out)

d) I'm intrigued by the descriptions 'revisionist take' and 'complex relationship'. I adore it when movies don't oversimplify characters into two camps: Good and Evil, Right and Wrong. If it allows for subtlety and layers in that relationship (beyond 'I wasn't invited to a christening, SO I WILL KILL THE CHILD'), excellent!

Although I'm curious what angle they're gonna take on this. I read a fic once in which pre-evil!Maleficent had actually helped the infertile Queen become pregnant through ~magical intervention, and then when they left her off the guest list, she was justifiably annoyed. (gee, what with this and Legend of the Seeker and Merlin, the moral of the story is that it really doesn't pay to get involved in magically thwarting nature wrt infertile women, it always ends badly)

I've done a quick search on archiveofourown and can't find that fic, however, I did come across a few other (unlikely) contenders for revisionist angles the movie could take:

The Environmental Awareness Angle: The Seed of a Forest. 'In her eighteenth year, the castle will be consumed by trees. They will drive away the humans as we were once driven away.'

The Romantic Angle: Heart's Blood. After falling in love with the very princess she cursed, Maleficent must seek a unicorn’s blood for the potion that can heal Aurora. ORLY. I haven't read this yet, but...okay...I'm curious how that's gonna work.

The Parody Angle: The Sleeping Beauty, or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Spindle: A Tale of Love and Presents.Once upon a time, there was a king and a queen. Together, they ruled a country. I could tell you which one, but then I’d have to kill you. In which the king is a moron, the wicked fairy is a Valley Girl and all Briar Rose wants is to be a ninja, royalty and marriage be damned.

The Anti-Hero Angle: Revenge! A Comedy- very funny, very snarky fic from the witch's pov.

I said, "Your daughter will die by touching a spindle on her sixteenth birthday!" while wearing a black wig and cloak and gesturing my arms in a suitably dramatic fashion. I didn't actually use any magic. I figured sixteen years of worry would be enough punishment.

But no. The girl's fairy godmothers just had to try to negate my 'curse.' They said, "No, your daughter will fall into a sleep of a hundred years after touching the spindle on her sixteenth birthday." And they used magic, unlike me.

And the witch ends up scaling the tower to save the princess, LMAO.
