Parking cops must die...

I am spitting mad right now. I just got off the phone with a Guelph parking cop, who pleasantly informed me that my request for an overnight street parking exemption is denied. Each residence in Guelph is allowed two exemptions per year. And, so far this year, I've had six. Yeah, they don't really enforce it during the off-season, but once the students return, time for the cash grab.

So, that means that I can park on the street between 2:00-6:00am and get a $25 ticket each night, or I can arrange for a parking space here in my building's lot.

No brainer, right? Wrong.

The management of this building won't let me have a designated parking spot because I don't own a vehicle. Even though a guaranteed designated parking spot is included in the rental agreement.

So, for tonight, I will get up extra early. Perhaps grab some groceries at the 24-hour grocery store. By 3:00am, things will have settled down a bit, and I should be able to find an unoccupied spot at our building and park in it. Then hang out until I leave for work at 4:30am. The parking cops usually hit this section of town somewhere between 3:30-4:00am, but I won't depend on that.

I think that I will have to give the management a description of my former vehicle, along with its' licence plate. The car is no more, but I still have one of the plates (the other being mangled beyond recognition). Then, I'll get my own spot back. And I'll put the old licence plate on the dashboard of my rental vehicle whenever I need to use the spot.

I didn't mind the occasional $14 parking ticket ($12 if you pay early), but to jump to $25 (with no early pay discount) in one fell swoop - without announcing said radical increase - was a bit much.

Money grabbing bastards. May they all be covered in honey and tied to an ant colony.

grr!, craptastic
