Big BSG finale post

So it is over. BSG, I've loved you well.

I wasn't so keen on the lapdancing club flashbacks, and we *really* didn't need to see Papadama throwing up in an alleyway. Ellen and Tigh were Elen and Tigh, and I can't really think of much else to say about them. It will be interesting to look at Ellen from S1 through to the finale.

The Opera House.
When it became obvious the opera house was CIC (and my first thought was that having the five up top like that looked really cheesy), I thought they were going to put Hera in the gunk-tank and Something Mysterious and Plot Resolving would happen. Not so...

Laura Roslin and Bill Adama.
Oh...very much how it was going to end, poignent and lovely. I have no idea why Bill had to leave completely though. At least I sort of do, but I still think he could have withdrawn from public life and still seen his son.

Lee and Kara
They were very much Lee and Kara in this, Starbuck and Apollo felt very much in the past. I felt...bereft for Lee afterwards. His father had gone, he'd lost his best friend, and so many of his friends. I could see him climbing mountains and travelling and generally living life, but I did so want him and Kara to be Apollo and Starbuck, just a little.

Tyrol
I believe, and always have, that the Chief really did love Cally. He loved Boomer more, and his love for Cally was completely different, but he did love her. I was reassured when another ?deckhand said 'I could have told you she was trouble' and Tyrol laughed and said that it wouldn't have mattered. I've never liked Tory, so was rather pleased to see her go (but Chief? Bad timing).

Racetrack
It had to be Racetrack who found the Colony. Sad that she and Skulls copped it, but I found it pretty amusing that it was her frozen hand that destroyed the colony.

Helo/Athena/Hera
I *knew* Helo wasn't dead! I also knew that we would find this out in one of the last scenes, and it happened almost exactly as I imagined. The only thing I didn't like about this was that in the future the report (did you spot the RDM cameo?) says the body of a young woman. I would rather think of Hera growing old surrounded by grandchildren. I wonder who the mitachondrial(sp?) Adam was... The three of them had the happiest ending of everyone.

Baltar and Six
I am glad that they ended up together. It felt strangely right, although I also liked the way the flashback reminded us that it was Caprica Six who had started it all in the first place by, you know, causing the twelve colonies to get nuked. I got a little weepy when Baltar said he knew about farming.

I could write more, and natter on about how much I liked the Colonial Theme playing on Galactica's last journey, and about how RDM did a Douglas Adams and had the Fleet starting Earth (although with moderately more useful skills than telephone sanitisers etc), but I've typed too long, and only one or two people will read this...
