Before Fred arrived, Giles called out to Andrew, and asked him to get some sandwiches for them from the cafeteria for a picnic. The younger man told Giles that it would have to be an inside since it was raining again. Giles sighed and hung up the phone, wondering what else could possibly go wrong that day

"I'm sorry you had such a bad morning," she told him, rubbing his temple lightly in the hopes that it might help. It probably didn't help that it had started raining again - she hadn't even known since she had been in the lab since after her talk with Martin, and there were no windows in there. "We'll have our picnic outside another time. I'm just looking forward to spending some time with you

Giles busied himself with setting up the picnic but stopped when Fred asked her question. “Ah yes,” he said, adjusting his glasses. “When they designed this building, they made a mistake. All of the Slayer facilities are on the other side of the building but this wasn’t. Someone finally saw the error and they stopped work on this room and built another one closer to the Slayers.”
He went over to Fred and took her hand before leading her back to the table he’d sat the food on. Giles pulled out her chair and waited for Fred to sit down before sitting down in the other chair. “The other room is a lot bigger than this one, and nicer,” he said, handing her a paper cup filled with tea. “We aren’t taking away from them but it was nice of you to be concerned.”
Giles picked out one of the turkey and swiss sandwiches and slowly unwrapped it. “How was your first morning in the lab?” he inquired before taking a drink of tea. “Everyone behave?”
"Ah," Fred said, looking around the room again as she sat down in the chair Rupert pulled out for her. She smiled at him as she took the cup of tea from him before taking a sip. "Then...I really love this. It'd be nice to be able to come up here with you or when I need to get away from the office. I love the lab, but somehow, I don't think it would be the greatest place to try to hide out

Giles stood from the sofa and started cleaning up the mess they’d left on the table. Once it was collected, he threw the paper bag in one of the bins and watched as Fred readjusted herself and her clothes. He did the same, smoothing out his shirt and straightening his out his tie. And when she mentioned how the mark made her feel like she was his, Giles smiled

"Tattoo? You mean something like 'Property of Rupert Giles' on my hip? 'Cause I don't think it'd be a good idea to have it on my neck - then I'd have to wear my hair down all the time at work." She shook her head with a laugh and reached up to run her hand through her hair to make sure that it was still covering the bite mark

While Fred was in her office, Giles watched as a man walked out of the lab. According to his name tag he was that Martin fellow Fred had told him about. Giles crossed his arms and narrowed his eyes at the man, wanting to tell him what happens to people who lies to his Fred but he saw her walking back and decided not to say anything. Instead, he merely nodded and gave Martin a look before the other man disappeared into the lab

Fred's eyes widened at William's statement as she shook his hand, her gaze flicking over to Andrew. "Hope that whatever he said was all good," she told him, a nervous twitter to her voice

Giles dropped the phone onto the cradle and sighed in frustration. The Initiative had assured him that Ethan was still in their custody. Part of him didn't want to believe it since he'd been lied to before by them. Picking up the phone again, he rang another division of the Initiative and waited for them to pick up. After a brief conversation, in which he was told once again that they still had Ethan, Giles slammed the phone down and rubbed his forehead

Fred took a step back when he started speaking to her harshly, her eyes opening wide as she bit her lip. She was thinking that she should go back to the lab and come back later when he stopped and apologized, but his voice still sounded strained and formal - like he was talking to an employee and not her, even though he called her "love

When Fred ran her fingers through his hair, Giles had to resist the urge to pull her to him. He needed her desperately but didn't want anyone to walk in. "I'll tell you what happened but let me make sure we have some privacy." Giles called out to Andrew's desk and asked him to make sure he didn't have any visitors. And once was he had the phone hung up, he motioned for Fred to pull up a chair

Fred listened as Rupert told her about Ethan, beginning to understand why he was acting the way he had in the boardroom. It sounded like Ethan was one of those kind of people that parents always worried about their children getting involved with - only even more dangerous because he used magic. She briefly wondered what kind of things he and Ethan had done that he wasn't proud of but knew that he would tell her in his own time, when he was ready. She knew it wasn't always easy to tell people things about your past. There were several things that she had done in Pylea that she hated to even think about much less admit to anyone

Giles watched Fred work, his mind wandering to how beautiful she looked, walking around and being smart. When she came over to show him the results, he had to resist the urge and place his hands on her hips. “Well, it’s not Ethan that’s doing it so it has to be someone else,” he said, pulling out his mobile

Fred listened at Rupert made his phone calls. He truly seemed to be in his element, organizing everyone and making sure they knew what to be prepared to do. She smiled at him, trying not to reach out and touch him while he was speaking. Glancing over, she saw Martin looking their way, so she quirked an eyebrow at him as if to say, What? He just grinned at her and turned away as Rupert finished his calls

When he got back to his office, Giles quickly finished up the paperwork that needed to be signed, and sent, that day. He placed them in Andrew’s inbox and cleaned up the clutter on his desk. When Fred knocked, he told her to come in and stood from his desk. “I’m finished here so we should go out to my vehicle and head home before the traffic gets too bad,” he said

Fred looked over at Giles, tightening her hand around his as they drove to the flat. "I know," she replied to his apology. "From the sound of it, I wouldn't want to meet Ethan either - everything that he's done to you
