"I'm sorry you had such a bad morning," she told him, rubbing his temple lightly in the hopes that it might help. It probably didn't help that it had started raining again - she hadn't even known since she had been in the lab since after her talk with Martin, and there were no windows in there. "We'll have our picnic outside another time. I'm just looking forward to spending some time with you."
She smiled when he got up and gave her a kiss before Andrew came in with the food. When he mentioned that he knew where they could have a picnic, she grabbed the bag of food as he pulled her out of the office, wondering where he was taking her.
The room he led her to was absolutely amazing. Walking over to the fountain, she reached out to the water, letting it wash over her hand. Windows and sunlights let in the muted light from outside. "I...this is beautiful," she told him, liking the idea that this could be theirs but wondering if it was fair to the Slayers this had been intended for. "Why wasn't it ever finished? Do the Slayers have a different room because I really don't want to take away something that should be theirs, considering what they have to do."
Giles busied himself with setting up the picnic but stopped when Fred asked her question. “Ah yes,” he said, adjusting his glasses. “When they designed this building, they made a mistake. All of the Slayer facilities are on the other side of the building but this wasn’t. Someone finally saw the error and they stopped work on this room and built another one closer to the Slayers.”
He went over to Fred and took her hand before leading her back to the table he’d sat the food on. Giles pulled out her chair and waited for Fred to sit down before sitting down in the other chair. “The other room is a lot bigger than this one, and nicer,” he said, handing her a paper cup filled with tea. “We aren’t taking away from them but it was nice of you to be concerned.”
Giles picked out one of the turkey and swiss sandwiches and slowly unwrapped it. “How was your first morning in the lab?” he inquired before taking a drink of tea. “Everyone behave?”
"Ah," Fred said, looking around the room again as she sat down in the chair Rupert pulled out for her. She smiled at him as she took the cup of tea from him before taking a sip. "Then...I really love this. It'd be nice to be able to come up here with you or when I need to get away from the office. I love the lab, but somehow, I don't think it would be the greatest place to try to hide out."
She took one of the sandwiches from the bag and sat back, stretching out a bit, her shoulders a bit tight from having been hunched over Martin's workstation for the last couple of hours. "This morning was...well, I wasn't sure how things were going to go at first, but I think it turned out well in the end. Martin Cramer - I don't know if you actually know him--I thought he was going to be a problem." She bit into her sandwich, wondering how much she should tell him, not wanting to sound like she was tattling to the principal. "He was testing me this morning. Don't think he thought I knew as much as I actually do, so he made the comment that he had tried mercury as an antidote to Enverenti poison. When I asked him what happened to the table he destroyed when he did that, I think I managed to impress him, and it looks like he'll be really good to have around, especially on the biological and physiological side of things. The others seem friendly and knowledgeable enough. I'll have to spend some more time with them to really see what they can do."
Finishing off one of the halves of her sandwich, she took another sip of tea and smiled at Rupert, reaching over to rest her hand on his arm.
"I think I'm really going to like it here. I'd forgotten how much I really enjoyed working in a lab. I just hope that the Department head meeting goes all right. Anything I should know before I walk in there that might not be on the dossiers I read?"
While Giles listened to Fred speak, a smile played on his lips. He tried to imagine Fred, standing there, taking control over her employees. His mind wandered a bit, wondering if she would give him a stern talking to later, when they were home and in bed. Shaking his head, he looked up at her. “You’re absolutely brilliant,” he said in a dreamy voice.
He finished off his sandwich just as Fred asked about their upcoming meeting. “It’s a small meeting,” he said, wiping his hands off on a napkin. “It’ll be us, Xander, Willow, Andrew, the head of research, the head of legal, and the two heads of the Slayer department,” he said. “Everyone is fairly nice unless they’re having a bad day within their department. We just coordinate things if one department needs another department for a project.”
Giles took Fred’s hand and stood from the table. He went over to her and pulled her up before walking her over to the sofa. “I do hope you were finished eating because I desperately need to kiss you right now,” he said, sitting down and pulling her down on his lap. He nuzzled against her neck before finding her mouth with a deep kiss.
Fred blushed when he called her brilliant. "Just did what I had to do; otherwise, I wouldn't be able to run my department right, and I don't want you to think that you made the wrong decision hiring me."
Picking up the other half of her sandwich, she ate while he told her about the department meeting. In a way, it actually sounded a lot less scary that her own department meeting had been since she knew most of the people in attendance and got along with them. She just hoped that the heads of the departments that she didn't know weren't having a bad day.
She had just popped the last bit of her sandwich into her mouth when Giles pulled her up from the chair and took her over to one of the couches. She let out a small involuntary squeak as she landed in his lap. A moment later, his lips were on hers, and her eyes fluttered shut as she ran her hand up his collarbone to the side of his neck.
When they finally came up for air, she smiled at him, resting her forehead against him and breathing deeply. Part of her wished they could just spend the rest of the day in here, christening the room. "I've been wanting to be able to do that with you all morning," she confessed, wondering how much time they had left of their hour. "Think the boss would mind us doing this for the rest of the time before we have to head back downstairs?"
“I hear this is how your boss decides who gets a raise and who doesn’t,” Giles murmured as he started to kiss her neck. His hand, which suddenly had a mind of its own and started to slide up her thigh. When it got to the hem of her skirt, it traveled underneath it and softly stroked the material of her knickers. Giles pulled back a little and looked at his watch, noting they still had twenty minutes before they had to go to the afternoon meeting.
It wasn’t enough time, especially since they would have to clean up before leaving. Pulling back, he furrowed his brow before smiling. He slid her off his lap and laid her back on the sofa before moving away from her. With her leaning against of the arm of the sofa, Giles carefully pushed her skirt up and pushed the crotch of her knickers to the side.
“I love you,” he whispered as he leaned down to softly kiss her. He pushed one of her fingers into her and started to slowly stroke her as his thumbs made tight circles around her clitoris.
"Oh...does that mean I'm going to get a raise soon?" she asked, closing her eyes as she tilted her head so Rupert had better access to her neck. She hummed softly at the feel of his lips on his neck and his hand on her thigh although his touching her this way was arousing her, and she wasn't quite sure if that was a good idea since they had such a short time for lunch.
Before she could say anything, however, she found herself leaning back against the couch arm. "Rupert, wha--?" she started to asked, only to trail off when she felt his fingers moving underneath her panties. Letting out a soft gasp of surprise, she looked up into his eyes as he kissed her.
Electricity whipped through her body the moment his finger pushed into her, causing her hips to raise up off the couch. She grabbed onto both him and the cushion to steady herself. "Oh, fu--Rupert..." she managed to choke out.
Giles chucked at Fred’s surprise. He had never been one to so such things before, especially at work, but Fred seemed to bring something out in him. He carefully added a second finger and continued to stroke her tight walls as his thumb started to move faster. “You’re so beautiful,” he whispered, his free hand stroking her face.
Dipping his head, he softly nibbled on her neck and slowly moved up her ear. He sucked on her earlobe before he started to whisper in her ear. “I love you so much, Fred,” he whispered, his thumb moving a bit faster. “I love your smile, your voice, your eyes. I love the way you get nervous and chew on your bottom lip. I love the way you hold me and love me.”
Kissing her earlobe again, Giles took a deep breath and pushed his fingers further in. “I love everything about you,” he said, his fingers moving faster. “And I’m glad you’re part of my life and I’m never going to let you go.”
The fact that they were at work, hidden away, made the whole moment that much more intense as Fred tried to keep from crying out, not wanting anyone else who might be on the same floor to hear her. Not only were his fingers causing her entire body to feel like it was being wound tighter and tighter, but his words were sending her mind whirling from love and need and want and everything that he touched in her. She wasn't sure how she had been so lucky as to meet this man, but it was something she would never take for granted.
"Love...love you too," she moaned, feeling his fingers going deeper. The sensations rushing like mad through her body made her feel like she might pass out from overstimulation and caused her to squirm beneath him. "You...you're my Rupert. Oh, God..."
The tension string that had been her snapped, and she began to spasm around his fingers as she pressed her face against his shoulder to muffle her cries. When she felt her body begin to calm down, she raised her head and looked up into his eyes.
"This has got to be the best first day at work ever," she said shakily.
Giles carefully pulled his fingers out of her and tasted them as he smiled down at her. “I sort of wish my first day would’ve been this nice,” he said before softly kissing her. “I wish we could stay here for the rest of the day but I’m afraid if we both miss the meeting, it’ll only add fuel to the gossip fire.” And he really did wish they could stay since his trousers suddenly felt incredibly tight.
He raised himself to a sitting position and glanced at his watch again. They had ten minutes to get to the meeting and he frowned a little, knowing they wouldn’t be able to touch each other again until they went home that evening. Giles thought about canceling the meeting but he knew William, the head of the research department, wanted to discuss something with them.
“I do suppose we should get cleaned up and head out soon.” He said before he looked over at Fred. Giles’ eyes widen and he groaned. “Oh, Fred, I’m so sorry. I didn’t--” He reached out and softly touched the small bite mark on her neck. “I didn’t think I bit that hard. Perhaps you can wear your hair down? I really am sorry.”
Fred nodded at Rupert's words as they both sat up. "I don't want to cause any trouble for you with this either. I know that us getting together so soon after you offered me the job probably isn't the most professional-looking thing from any standpoint," she told him as she straightened out her skirt and panties so she'd look presentable again. She knew she'd need to splash her face with some water as well - she could feel her cheeks burning bright pink from the warmth that had spread through her entire body. "Although I wouldn't change what's happened between us for anything. You're the most amazing man I've ever met."
She noticed his eyes widen as he looked at her. "What?" When he touched her neck, she put her hand up, wondering what was there. A hickey? She almost thought he had seen a big wart or something. "It's okay, Rupert, really." She gave his hand a squeeze and then got up and went over to the fountain, where she wet her hand and touched it to her face to cool down a bit before releasing her hair from the clip. She then twisted a bit of it back up again but left enough down that it covered her neck.
"There," she said, crossing back over to him. She could still see the look of apology in his eyes. "It's really okay. Besides...makes me kind of feel like I'm yours."
She smiled when he got up and gave her a kiss before Andrew came in with the food. When he mentioned that he knew where they could have a picnic, she grabbed the bag of food as he pulled her out of the office, wondering where he was taking her.
