Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I freaking met Dar Williams last friday. yeah. like, whoa. I caught her show at Sanders Theatre with the lovely Lena, after a super tasty mexican dinner and ice cream, and the show was OH so freaking good. Definitely clutch. Her music has really been a blessing these past couple weeks--it's helped me maintain some semblance of perspective, when it would really be quite easy to curl up into a ball.
Grad school has been doing its damnedest to kick the crap out of me, and it's been hard so far. I had coffee with a couple second-years today, and they gave me assurances that I will survive this year. But they were also quite honest about the fact that grad school is challenging, and it isn't only because there's plenty of work (which there is), but there are also the little life details--apartment, new friends, commuting, bills--that also have to be sorted out. But I feel like I've managed to keep a good, healthy balance. So far. I've managed to complete two whole homeworks for my stats class, which makes me feel much better about the work-factor. And I know how to read, and write still, so my substantive courses are fine. I have to write my first paper tomorrow. Should be interesting.
I like my classes, and my classmates. My roommate is fantastic, too. Just be careful watching Purdue football with her.
I've been missing B quite a bit these days, particularly as the weather gets colder. It's been almost a year, and I have to say that it was much easier to survive the winter as I didn't sleep alone most nights. A winter here in a large lonely bed is a daunting circumstance.
I'm headed up to Rochester next week, in a much-needed round of relaxation(sorta) and friend-visiting. I just need to be where my circle of friends is, y'know? They're all there, and I just need to be a place where I know how to do things. I left a pretty big chunk of myself in Rochester.
Well, it's time for me to head to my beddy-bye, so that i might wake up tomorrow, put on the coffee, and hit the books once again.
Bring it.
