Still with the Truman Capote:

She could see that he was from the mountains: his straw country hat and the worn-out blue of his thick shirt told her as much. He was a ginger color, his skin shiny as a lemon, smooth as a guava leaf, and the tilt of his head was as arrogant as the black and scarlet bird he held in his hands. Ottilie was used to boldly smiling at men; but now her smile was fragmentary, it clung to her lips like cake crumbs.

...plunging through the healthy waist-high grass, we unreel our kites, feel them twitching at the string like sky fish as they swim into the wind... "I've always thought a body would have to be sick and dying before they saw the Lord. And I imagined that when He came it would be looking at the Baptist window: pretty colored glass with the sun pouring through, such a shine you don't know it's getting dark... but I'll wager it never happens. I'll wager at the very end a body realizes the Lord has already shown Himself. That things as they are"--her hand circles in a gesture that gathers clouds and kites and grass and Queenie pawing earth over her bone--"just what they've always seen, was seeing Him. As for me, I could leave the world with today in my eyes."

Health-related stuff today:

Japanese people are pretty behind on the dental hygiene deal. The dentist I go to usually recommends that his patients come four times a year for cleaning! (He told me that I could stick to two, though, because my teeth are fine.) Also, insurance doesn't cover just cleaning so he has to do other things like checking gums, etc. so that people can pay with insurance.

japan, health, things that make me happy, lines
