There were three short stories at the end of my borrowed Breakfast at Tiffany's book ("House of Flowers", "A Diamond Guitar", and "A Christmas Memory"). I don't understand why I had never come across Truman Capote in classes before. His writing is beautiful, so much more beautiful in the short stories! It isn't often that I find something that isn't mindless and yet draws me to continue. Capote's images are so vivid and so many, but I don't find them overdone at all. Perfect.
On the topic of new discoveries, I am realizing how meeting and knowing new people can have a big effect. It isn't a matter of dramatic changes, but I am learning a lot about random things from M and inspired to seek and absorb more information. This one is a good change, I think, and I'm surprised at how naturally it came about. I'm pretty stubborn....!
I don't know if I'll get around to posting more about my skiing weekend, but basically: SUPER FUN. I didn't fall! We took a class (with, like, 6 year olds) for two hours and practiced on really gentle slopes on Monday and Tuesday. I have trouble walking/going uphill but skiing itself was exhilarating. If I go again, I might try an actual beginner course? Anyway, it was a great experience and I'm really glad I tried it.
Snowboarding has piqued my interest, but I don't think I have the coordination. It's fascinating to watch, though.
