Thursday and Friday I volunteered to help prepare a collection of children's picture books from another library (nothing particularly taxing-- scan the old bar code, check the info in the database to make sure it's accurate, apply new bar code, scan and overwrite, stamp inside front cover to assert Kent State's ownership) and found several books ( Read more... )

I just finished DH. It's way past my bedtime, but I desperately want to spend the rest of the wee hours reading Fandom Wank. See, as much as I enjoyed the book, I can't shake the sense that the real fun will come from the explosively batshit Internet fallout. Fandom has broken me.

Anyway, scattered thoughts:

My brother's girlfriend's mother came to visit this weekend, so, obviously, my parents decided last week that we needed an emergency brick pathway and patio. So much digging, so much brick-laying, so much fighting with cement. I've hit the point where spending ten minutes in Belk gives me a splitting headache. I'm not sure whether it lurks in the endless sea of clothing or behind the ever-widening Clinique counter, but something in that store seeks to plunge me into Lovecraftian madness and then devour the remains of my soul. I have half a dozen things to do today, so, logically, I have changed my journal layout. All I really did was take one of the default color schemes and move a few of the colors around, since I know better than to try coming up with a scheme of my own. I had a very good birthday weekend, all told, despite the temporary crushing of my self-esteem beneath the heel of the University of Illinois's admissions office.
