New Holiday Sparkle Edition

Dec 01, 2006 17:41

For me, today marks the official beginning of the Christmas season. Once upon a pre-NaNoWriMo time, I used to assign the start-date to the day after Thanksgiving, but that little window between Turkey Day and December 1st is now its own mini-holiday: NaNo Panic Crunch Time. (We celebrate with expresso and foods that can be consumed with only the briefest of interruptions in typing. Later we gather 'round our glowing monitors and lament that perfectly good free Saturday we spent browsing Wikipedia.)

Already I desire eggnog. And candy dyed red and green and thereby made inexplicably more delicious. And new jingle socks that have not yet lost their merry, tinkling bells.

Holiday fun link: The X-Entertainment Advent Calendar is a tradition now in its fifth year and still way more entertaining than it should be. Check out the post, read through the archives (2002 is the first calendar, technically, but 2003 is the year that the concept really comes into its own and develops a plot), and then head off to this year's first entry. The power of the Mare Whinningham mythos compels you.

I have just noticed that by stacking my empty cans of Diet Mountain Dew next to my red-lidded water bottle, I can create a festive holiday centerpiece right here on my desk. Today is a good day. I have made art.

Now if only I could make better weather. I tried singing to summon Cold Miser and Heat Miser, that I might strike some dark pact with them to lower the temperature by forty or so degrees, but I have yet to receive a response. They must be shy.

temperature intolerance, follow the butterflies
