I tried my hands on 2 dishes recently.
1) Tomato sauce pasta....ok don't laugh...there's a first time for everything, right?
Ingredients:
- spiral pasta, got it free from Singapore Marathon race pack =P
- Prego tomato sauce (half a can)
- Ayam Brand tuna chunks in olive oil
- olive oil, chopped shallots
Method:
- cook pasta for 10 mins in boiling water with a pinch of salt
- fry shallots light in olive oil till fragrant
- throw in everything else and fry together...haha
Result:
Verdict: This will be the last time I'm cooking this...last time...
2) Hokkien Mee, decided to try this out after the 1st episode of makansutra raw...haha
Ingredients:
- yellow noodles and beehoon
- bean sprouts
- eggs
- chopped shallots
- 1 fish cake, cut into pieces (to replace sotong)
- prawns
- cai xin
- chicken stock (ready made type)
Method:
- fry shallots light in olive oil till fragrant
- Throw in noodles, beehoon and bean sprouts and stir.
- Add chicken stock, stir a bit and close lid
- push whatever in the wok to 1 side and fry eggs with olive oil
- Add cai xin and fish cake and stir everything together and add more stock, cook briefly
Verdict: Taste quite ok lah, though not as good as outside. A bit dry. Lack of sotong and the secret recipe of the hokkien mee stock takes some of the taste away I believe. I heard the secret recipe contains chicken meat, sugar cane and clams. Furthermore I use olive oil instead of pork lard oil, think that makes a difference too.
