Grandmothers

Grandmothers, they are a species all to themselves. They are complex, simple, generous, stingy, selfish, selfless, loving, hating, beautiful, scary, sexy, talented, tricky, graceful, delicate, frugal, expensive, spooky, strong and any other adjective you can come up with. They are wisdom wrapped up in wrinkled skin. They are Mothers all grown up. They are like a diamond with many facets. One day you know them, the next surprised by what they say or do. You are left questioning who is this lady smiling at me. They love you with all their hearts and yet some they can dislike and just look at you with an icy glare. You know what is in their heart when it comes to you. They see things that others miss, they know the secrets of all the universe. They are silent when times require silence, and loud when they know their voice needs to be heard. They are the true psychics and empaths. They can love like no other. They are courageous and fierce like a lioness protecting her cubs. They can be so gentle with a china tea cup and pinky in the air. They are associated with fine lace, yet some wear silk and leather. They can baffle you into thinking they are like rose petals in the wind, and yet they could be wearing thong underwear underneath that floral dress. There is nothing in this world like a Grandmother. She is a lady, a woman, and a regal dictator and her brood are her subjects. She may play bingo and wear lavender perfume yet carries mace in her bag with rolls of wrapped pennies. She uses a tea bag twice yet gambles a thousand dollars away on a weekend at the casino. She has the prettiest jewels in her treasure box yet she wears that dime store ring everyday that her grandchild won for her out of a machine. Her home is decorated with her family's faces where her VanGogh paintings pale in comparison. She knits, bakes the best cookies, she gardens, she sings. She kisses boo-boos better than Mommy. She brings presents when it isn't even your birthday. She knows how to make you smile. She makes the best hot cocoa, soup with crackers, and hot morning breakfast. She knows the best restaurants, and you will behave while out shopping with her. Grandmothers, she wraps you up with her homemade afghan and warms you with her stories. She is a treasure like no other. She takes you shopping and buys your favorite foods. She knows how to make you laugh. She can drink a fifth and may cuss like a sailor. She has mystery about her and secrets no one will know. She is timeless and eternal. She is a Grandmother. She may have modeled nude, she may have worn her skirts high, she may have painted a line up the back of her legs to imply stockings. She knows rough times and she knows how to live it up. She knows how to wear a lampshade over her head and while she drinks her wine. She may speed when she drives, she may drive a Ferrari. She may have lived her entire life in the back seat of a Rolls Royce, she may have only ridden on public transportation. You always remember your manners when your with your Grandmother. She has her "old" ways. She is a Grandmother and no one is like her. She will forever be in our memories, good or bad. She is a legend of which stories are said. She is a Grandmother.

There is one more important thing to say about Grandmothers. Everyday when a Grandmother dies, the world loses another beautiful soul. So, every autumn when the trees shed their leaves, it's actually the Earth's way of shedding tears for every Grandmother who has passed on to another level of existence that year. If you are a Grandmother, this entry is for you. Thank you to every one of you.

Love and Light, ....................Bogomils
