Last night I came home to find out that a very good friend of the house, Brandon was in ICU in Portland with Pneumonia in both longs, and a bad viral and bacterial infection. His liver and kidneys were not functioning correctly and his heart was operating at like 20%. See Brandon had a heart transplant almost 2 years ago after getting some crazy virus in a trip to China. He had been doing just great and last week he was hanging out with us at the house like normal. I guess he got sick this week and it went from just a normal illness to life threatening very quickly. So last night seeing that things were looking bad all the roommates but Sarah who wasn't home decided to go up to Portland to the hospital to see Brandon. We got there around 11pm and there was a lot of people in the waiting room. We were greeted with some good news in that they had gotten him somewhat stable and were working on increasing his blood pressure so they could give him better antibiotics to fight the infection. So we were pretty happy. We all took turns going in to see him. Of course he was not awake since they had him drugged up but we all talked to him anyways and kept telling him to fight and to get better. Around 2am we left and crashed at house in Portland.
This morning we all woke up and went back to the hospital in hopes of good news. Andrea, Brandon's sister, said nothing had changed but they had found a blood clot in his heart and were worried that he could have a clot in his brain and were taking him off some drugs to wake him up to see if he had normal brain function so they could look for signs of a blood clot. This sort of scared me but I was trying to be optimistic. I think all of us were pretty anxious and so we looked for things to do around the hospital to entertain ourselves. The doctor was going to come back that evening to check on his condition so since Alex had to be at work we left Portland for home. Half way home we got a call that Brandon had woken up then crashed and they had lost him. The couldn't revive him. Sam told us in the car and it was silent for the next hour. I got home went upstairs and called Mitch and lost it. I just cried. The rest of the house has been taking it pretty hard. Brandon was an amazing person. He was always joking, even when he was in ICU when he was first admitted he was joking around, that was just his personality. He was the kind of guy who would go out of his way to help you. I mean when I would have a car problem he would be the first one out there trying to help me. I always enjoyed having him at the house and if he hadn't been around in a few days I would always miss him and ask when he was coming over. He always made everyone laugh. He was only 22 years old...
My whole house spent the night together. We all just wanted to be at the house together, it just felt like the right place to be. I made dinner for everyone and we just told stories about Brandon and laughed and cried. We played this stupid game that Brandon and everyone loved to play. Then we watched 27 Dresses since Brandon loved that movie and we always laughed at him for it.
It's been hard for all of us, especially my two roommates Nigel and Sam who were like family to Brandon. They are both taking it hard. It's just so hard to believe that last week he was sitting on the couch cracking jokes and now he's gone. Poor Mitch is in LA for all of this and I don't think can come up for the funeral or anything, he just has to deal with it all by himself. I mean he has his friends down there but not like here where we all are supporting each other and grieving together.
Well I'm tired and drained. I've been doing nothing but crying, praying and laughing for the last 2 days.
Good Bye Brandon, love you
