Entry #4- Lessons of Stranger Than Fiction

In the film, Stranger Than Fiction, there are many lessons learned that everyone should apply to their everyday lives.  First, I believe it is a strong reminder for us all to be more present and involved in our lives, whether dealing with yourself or others, too.  As Harold Crick, an IRS auditor, finds himself living his life by the hand on his wristwatch, strokes of his toothbrush, and steps to the bus, he continues to live a very strict and boring life.  Harold has every aspect of his life figured out, and there is no drama or excitement in his life.  He eventually finds out that he is suddenly in the middle of the plot of a novel, and the narrator explains to him, in his head, that he will be dead soon.  Therefore, Harold realizes the reality of his existence and begins to improve his way of life and changes for the good.  There are many people that live the old life of Harold Crick.  Many close themselves off from the outside world just to protect themselves.  They don’t take chances or opportunities, ignore the passing years, and avoid unhappiness.  This makes me wonder if people ask themselves whether their life has meaning.  You must ask yourself that question and realize that you must live now and know that tomorrow is not promised.  Don’t ever put something off for tomorrow if you’re determined to do it.  Most all want to accomplish all their goals and dreams, so do it now when you can still accomplish these things and gain the satisfaction you desire from them before the passion dies.  Lastly, this film challenges all to not only be content with your life, but also be happy!  There’s no greater accomplishment in life than being happy and ecstatic for everything that happens each day.
