Entry #3- Seeing Stranger Than Fiction for a Second Time

Before being enrolled in this class, I had seen Stranger Than Fiction; however, my opinions and attempts to analyze the story completely changed the second time I saw it in class, when I was thinking about how I was going to have to write a paper about it.  At first, I was focused on solely the humor and interesting plot that was taking place.  I was very intrigued with the brilliance and acting of the film.  But when I watched it for the second time, I carefully analyzed all the characters, scripts, and scenes in the film to discover the many themes of the story.  I was also much more impressed with the performance of the actors when watching it for the second time.  They were excellent!  Dustin Hoffman displayed how much experience and skill as an actor provides the film with some of the best lines and physical comedy, naturally.  At the same time, Will Ferrell also displays much more skill for drama and monologues that was not present in some of his previous jobs.  His soft, subtle actions work very well in the film, as Harold is growing into his own life and taking control.  It is a straightforward performance, played without irony, and works extremely well.  Also, while watching, I could not find any flaws in the script and found that the acting was never going too fast and cramming ideas into the viewer’s heads or going too slowly and boring the audience.  The characterization of the film provides for a beautiful piece of work.  All of the characters have little quirks and traits that make them so different, and they seem to change and become more enriched by the conclusion.
