It's Amazing What You Learn While Watching Hockey

For example, before last night's Leafs vs. Stars game the audience of the ACC stood in a moment of silence for the passing of Nelson Mandela, and that's how I learned of his death. I mean, you could hear a pin drop in that arena... it was sorta surreal considering how much hockey fans enjoy violence.

I don't usually pile on to celebrity mourning - it doesn't mean anything to me unless I've met the person - but I feel sad about Mandela's passing even though he did so much, lived so long, and inspired so many. If you look at it from a distance, there's nothing to be sad about other than he is no longer here. His life was triumphant.
