Some stuff to check out.

I've been getting some good new arts input lately, so I thought I post a quick list of recommendations:

TV:

I know everyone is probably a year ahead of me on this, but I've started watching House thanks to Kate and am quite enjoying the puzzle-like nature of it.

Men in Trees is another Kate-introduced show and one of the sweetest, quirkiest things.  Don't let the New York character (kind of makes me think of the Sex in the City character at first) throw you.  The gold is in the residents of Elmo.

Books:

I've been newly reminded of how absolutely crazy-awesome the Thursday Next series is.  Read it.

I'm not through with it yet, but Word Warriors is so packed with poetry and ideas.  Each artist includes an essay or interview and two poems.  I'm certainly not over the moon about each and every one, but I'm still pretty stunned by many of them.  Great book for commuting on the train because you can eat it in little bites. Music:

Yesterday I looked up different musicians suggested in Curve and found a few that I really enjoy (not all lesbian musicians, btw).

Victoria Hart is a strange little throwback to the big band era.  What I like is that she uses the catchy style of retro jazz and big band, but plays with the lyrics to bring it up to date.  Nothing wrong with the classics (I love 'em), but it's nice to hear something new in a genre that often seems done.  I do have to admit that the feminist side of me bristles a bit at the pouting, vacant act in her videos, but the theatre side of me admires her ability to mimic the old glamour girls.

Mara Levi should be listened to if only for her track, "Homo Song".  She has a nice balance of in-your-face, sweet, and poetic.

Emilia Sosa does a type of music I didn't think I was that keen on, but I really like the sound of the tracks on her MySpace page.  Very danceable and sort of sexy.  Seattle resident too!

Art:

My friend Saj has created the most adorable set of sheep paintings.  Go look.  Now. ( :
