So, I finally got an interview. Now I'm nervous. It's next Friday and I'm doing a pre-visit on Tuesday. It's not the easiest place to get to of the places I've applied, but not the hardest either. Pretty much it's a bike-train-bike deal that'll take about an hour. I'm still applying to more jobs. About one a day since they all require a longish personal statement.
I've also been cleaning the house in anticipation for Lauril's arrival tomorrow. Mostly that's meant sorting, repacking, and storing the boxes of stuff that are in the spare room/office up in the attic. Kate's helped as much as possible, but unlike me, she has a job and that takes a lot of time and energy. We've now managed to get about half up in the attic and bout half condensed against one wall with a sheet over it. I vacuumed the section of the floor I could get to and set up the cot with bedding. I even rigged up a curtain on the window. A little dusting and it should be decent at least.
I meant to clean the rest of the house today, but haven't managed it. I gave the stairs a good sweep and mop that they needed and tidied up the living room. I think I'll just get up early tomorrow to scrub down the bathroom and kitchen. That will be about as nice as I can make it considering time and the construction-y state of the house. Next week I hope to do work on the new bathroom between applications. The trim is about ready for painting and I might get up the nerve to do some tiling while Kate isn't home.
We've been talking about the spare room/office walls and I came up with an idea Kate seems to like a lot. The thought is to paint the walls a nice warm yellow and then do a sort of stylized grass/plant type design on the bottom third. I showed her the idea with purple for the design, but I've been looking at colors and I think maybe a natural-looking orange with purple or burgundy accents might look nicer. I've see what she thinks when she gets home.
We've talked about greens for the bedroom, Kate plans on reds for the kitchen, the bathroom and hall are blue, and the living room is purple. We'll have a rainbow house. Fun and appropriate. Heh.
On a completely different topic, I've been introduced to a TV series and a book series, both of which I like. The TV series is
Hustle and is great fun. It's all about five people playing long cons. The books series is
Kushiel's Legacy. Kate enjoyed the first two books and I'm quickly catching up. Apparently I'm not allowed to read the third book until she's read it. ( : It's a sort of political intrigue, alternative European history, slightly fantasy-leaning set with a courtesan leading lady with a talent for linguistics. Trick is that she's a special, rare type of courtesan born to find pain pleasurable. It was a slow start, but I'm really enjoying it now.
Anyway, I think I've rambled enough and I should try and finish another app before I make dinner.
